Kezia laughed as slipped through the ropes of the practice ring. Her adrenaline was always pulsing and racing in the best way after sparring. Especially when Ethan was her partner on the mat. There was a rough-barrel quality to the man’s fighting that was exhilarating. For the longest time, Kezia had kept her sparring firmly in the category of fitness. Just a channel for her excess energy, so she didn’t go spinning off the axle and into something more dangerous. But she got better and better, and then more restless and then the punching bag and shadow-boxing wasn’t enough. When she landed her first hit to real flesh, she knew that’s what she had been missing.
The thrill of a moving target was hard to reproduce in artificial means.
Dashing her eyes to the side, Kezia eyed along the sweat-sheened line of Ethan’s jaw. “That was good,” she drawled. A pleased smile stretched over her face, like a cat in a sunbeam. “I was getting slow.” It had been a while since the two of them had been able to get together for a round or two. The only other person that Kezia really liked to spar with was Leilani but ever since Kezia’s mom had gone missing...
Stretching her fingers out a little, Kezia used her teeth to undo the fastenings of her hand wraps. “You were slow at the beginning too,” she taunted with a grin, shoving Ethan’s shoulder playfully. “Too much time in bed, Netflix and chilling with yourself?”
