I mean, why were there so many murderers, absolutely incomprehensibly focused on dumb murder stuff, so much of it, whyyyyyyy? Even people that were pretty nice would just outright shoot someone else for dumb reasons.
Yes, yes, drama. Yes, yes, anime. But really, why?
The reason: Lifehold withdrawal.
Something about artificial minds gets stuck in poisonous loops. Thoughts start to wear a path, narrow in, limit themselves. Not always a bad thing (sssssskellssssssss), but you get a fair amount of violence. The Lifehold flagged this kind of thing, removed it, unstuck people, smoothed it out, whatever. You wouldn't even realize you had been changed. Happened while you slept.
You just had to watch out for the people that didn't sleep.
On Mira, without the help of the Lifehold [ha ha must have been a little too far plus no one was sleeping enough ha ha], people started to fracture. A good support structure helped, because the focus stayed positive and also new ideas help keep the loop from becoming toxic. But some loners, sleepless loners, no I'm not talking about that one, the other guy, it didn't work out well.
