#Repost @longbeachpost [#TAKEOVER] This morning I had the pleasure of visiting my friends in the archives! Chloe (@chloepascual on the left) is the CSULB Archivist and Heather (@letters2elise on the right) is the CSULB Assistant Archivist. Together they run the archives, which have been in existence since 1977! They have famous art prints such as Warhol, Picasso and more to preserve. They are open to the public for research @csulblibrary find out more here: www.csulb.libguides.com/specialcollections. I love archives and special collections because that is what I studied in grad school for my certificate of specialization; I interned in two archives during/after my degree as well. #Repost @longbeachpost [#TAKEOVER] This morning I started the day off with some highlights and a trim at @CITYLOVELB--what a perfect name for a salon in the city I love! The new salon and barber shop is located off 4th and Cherry (right around the corner from the Pike Bar!) Brittany (pictured) is the owner and master stylist, who is accompanied by her husband and the barber, Bryan! This is the new version of my friend's band, Thee Rain Cats, called Channel (@channel_band )! I love their sound, and I had the drummer's band play my @kucifm college radio show back in the day (2003?). #Repost @longbeachpost [#TAKEOVER] Here are the ladies of @ladies_ride_lbc! We meet weekly to ride out at 8:00PM and do around 15 miles (always with lights and helmets!). Join us as we explore around town via bicycle. I remember when it was announced that Long Beach would have its very own fixed gear specialty store! #Repost @longbeachpost [#TAKEOVER] Another reason I love my job is because I am able to curate our zine collection at our new #LBPLZineLibrary! This public library circulating zine collection is free to take home (25 at a time for three weeks at a time) with your library card! The collection was brought into existence last November, and we already have over 400 unique titles cataloged. You may go to www.lbpl.org to search our full collection under call number "ZINE." This year I acquired zines from the Portland Zine Symposium, the OC Zine Fest, the LB Zine Fest, the TJ Zine Fest, the LA Art Book Fair, the LA Zine Fest and an independent publishing house in Matanzas, Cuba! Art by Artie! #Repost @longbeachpost [#TAKEOVER] One of the many reasons I love my job as a public librarian in Long Beach? I get to host a film club for adults! This means I get to put my film education to use (I studied film at the University of California, Irvine for a B.A. in Film & Media Studies, 2010) for the patrons of our public library at 101 Pacific Avenue. We started in January with the silent film era of the twenties then moved on to a new decade of film every month from there. This year's film club theme so far has been #reelingthroughthedecades. Our group meets every Tuesday for film screenings in the Main Library auditorium at 5:30PM--it's free to attend! Last night we screened Beetlejuice by Tim Burton from 1988 with a group discussion held after the film. #Repost @longbeachpost [#TAKEOVER] Visited Toxic Toast Records during my lunch break today. So proud of Andy for opening a record store in Long Beach--local small business owners unite! I first met Andy during my freshman year at Poly High School's string orchestra class in 1996 (he played the cello and I played the violin). He quickly became one of my favorite classmates because of his KoRn (one of my favorite bands since middle school in '95) patch on his jean jacket. Today I went in to purchase a Japanese video game vinyl for my DJ set at the end of summer reading teen ball on Friday, August 19! I'll be there as #DjZibaZ from 5:00 to 7:00PM.
