🔃 @denverartmuseum ・・・ These three works from Virgil Ortiz's epic narrative "Revolt 1680/2180" are this week's Artwork of the Week feature at the Denver Art Museum. The series restages the story of the Pueblo Revolt against Spanish invaders in 1680. In these artworks, Ortiz celebrates the daring revolt and success of the uprising. Featuring traditional Cochiti ceramic techniques and sci-fi inspired imagery, Ortiz pairs historical narratives with futuristic elements. These figures represent Ortiz's vision of a future where this troubling history is reconciled and balance is restored to the region. These works are currently on view at the DAM in "The Light Show," which is included in general admission. #LightatDAM #Denver #Colorado #VirgilOrtiz @virgilortiz #art #ceramics #indigenous #indigenousfuturism #native #nativeamerican Image 1: Virgil Ortiz (Cochiti, b. 1969), Velocity, 2011.
