Why ultra-sonic sensor over motion detector?
Motion sensor isn’t sensitive enough and can only be detected from a certain angle, mostly from upwards. Ultra-sonic is very sensitive and is well adjustable with its distances.
Why LDR over finger heartbeat touch sensor?
Form of a thermistor. Natural human senses contribute towards lights, so I need it to trigger any sort of temperature off light, human touches or anything relevant instead of having someone to externally touch the finger measuring touch sensor component for it to trigger for its effects.
How do these experimental electronic components visually represent human senses of the neurological condition Synaesthesia?
There are no straight answers, but a sensory system is a part of the nervous system responsible for processing sensory information. A sensory system consists of sensory receptors, neural pathways, and parts of the brain involved in sensory perception. Commonly recognized sensory systems are those for vision, hearing, somatic sensation (touch), taste and olfaction (smell). The electronic components are chosen accordingly with couple options given for each to determine the best suit for a better and sensitive detection.
The idea was taken off the image given below for the explanation below the image. This image was also one of the inspiration for the lights reflecting off an object to another and what absorbs and what bounces off.
The LED’s are used for the visual representation of each detection which is being reflected on the given model, backing up our concept. The reflections are directly reflected on the researched senses and the cross-correlation of the condition. We haven’t concluded our research model but we’re taking the idea of just the human senses at this point for further experimentations.
The senses for the condition we’re studying holds the receptive fields that has been identified for the visual systems, auditory systems and somatosensory system.
The visual system is the part of the central nervous system which gives organisms the ability to process visual detail, as well as enabling the formation of several non-image photo response functions. It detects and interprets information from visible light to build a representation of the surrounding environment (Visual system, n.d.).
The auditory system is a body system that is responsible for the sense of hearing. It is divided into two subsystems- the peripheral auditory system (outer ear, middle ear and inner ear) and the central auditory system (from the cochlear nucleus up to the primary auditory cortex) (Sincero, 20008-2018).
The somatosensory system is the part of the sensory system concerned with the conscious perception of touch, pressure, pain, temperature, position, movement, and vibration, which arise from the muscles, joints, skin, and fascia (Nida Gleveckas-Martens & Gest, 12).
These three structural complex helped design the cross-correlation of the condition which maybe either 3D printed in the researched model or physically applied into the model for more detail.
Progress made towards the final artifact:
I personally think studying under these three areas gain a strong education under bio-tech. This helps find the connection between the biological matters in the technological areas but to also resolve/reveal/declare sensitive information that cannot be found in just one area of either bio or tech.
