Sound Engineer Charged In Radiohead Stage Collapse
Does the subject of safety ever occur to you when setting up your music gear? I would say that for an average musician there is actually very little to worry about. They have their power cords all routed into a power strip and they keep anything conductive away from areas where can cause an accident. Perhaps you use speakers and amp in your system; well in this case they are either sitting on the floor or they are mounted into the ceilings somewhere. Still, there is not much that will concern a musician in terms of safety. Now, a DJ who is into advanced lighting and who uses amps to power speaker systems might have to use more caution when setting things up. Improperly setup speakers and lighting can cause fires or electrocution in the right situation. These can obviously cause injuries that are serious. Doing this type of work on a larger scale only adds to the danger, as any stage manager would know. Live concerts that fill venues of thousands of people at a time need to be engineered and planned so that these accidents do not happen. Something like a dropping stage light or a broken truss can injure and kill. http://www.hypebot.com/hypebot/2013/06/live-nation-sound-engineer-charged-in-radiohead-stage-collapse.html
