i kinda didn’t exactly capture what you left in the tags about the met gala but if your point is that the money spent on those events is basically a waste while there are countries suffering from hunger out there, and it’s as if they’re rubbing it in their faces, then yes i completely agree

That's the gist of it, but moreso events like this are spectacles that distract us from the real problem, and not so much that it's intended to rub the wealth gap into our faces

This sort of decadence and displays of wealth also follow the tradition of... Hmm, not the American Dream exactly, but like... rags to riches culture? Okay maybe a lot of the people who show up to Met Gala were born into the industry, but a lot of them aren't, and the whole dress glam sort of culture goes hand in hand with the rise and grind til you succeed and get to walk in the red carpet sort of culture. People watch events like this to live vicariously through other people's high life

I also kinda left out a connecting thought from my word vomit in the tags - which relates to my point about these events being a distraction. While we spend our attention on fluff and entertainment like this, the same ilk with the money and influence that are propping up the institutions running and organising such events, they are the ones causing the very problems that these events distract us from. Follow the Met Gala news and talk about the Met Gala outfits, ignore the crummy things happening in the country or even just in the industry itself, etc.
