Hello ificouldbegin-to-be, I got a few questions if you don't mind to anwser them. 1. How do you start rpgs ? 2. How can I learn to write good rpgs? 2.1 In case of vocabulary 2.2 In case of a story 3. If I am scared to write stories I like but other people think it is to dark, should I stop? Thank you for reading my ask. I like a lot of your stories, espacially with Pink diamond in them, (but the drawings freak me out). You are a great writer , keep up the great work.
Well helloooo there! I hope you don’t mine me making this public, I just feel like it could benefit a lot of people wondering the same thing! So strap in and prepare for Jordan’s rping tips!
So for me when it comes to….I’ll assume you mean rp, cause rpgs I think refer to role playing games–like video games lol. Anyway, rps can be started in various ways! You can reblog memes with starter sentences or symbols to prompt interactions. You could write open starters and have people respond to them, or the one that’s the hardest for me, you could approach people via ask or message and ask them if they want to interact. And like I said…that can be the hardest for people with bad anxiety, but you can make some rewarding friendships.
Practice. Writing good rps takes practice. I’m not talking formatting, ‘cause everyone formats differently. If you’re writing a canon character you have to have a grasp on them. Rewatch/read scenes of them to get a firm grasp on the character. Practice writing them on your own too before you decide to make yourselves public. But remember, characters are meant to be fluid. You can change how they are from canon a bit and still have them be who they are. My Pink is probably more bubbly and immature than other Pinks, and my Steven is more sympathetic to everyone’s plight (although I think that’s pretty canon.) Write them however you wish Sometimes people like when you make them deviate from canon a bit. Just keep in mind the character that you fell in love with. Now for OCs, you gotta entirely flesh them out. Think of a good backstory, a motive for how they are, their goal in life. Create a living being with a personality. No one wants to write with a flat character. Make them extremely interesting. Give them strength, give them flaws, write a physical description on them so apt that you wouldn’t even need a drawing. Make them so people will be dying to interact with them.
Everybody’s vocabulary is different. Some of my partners put mine to absolute shame. It can be horribly intimidating to write with someone who has an amazing vocabulary, but trust me, you’d learn from them too. (I learned words I didn’t even think existed from some partners…) No one expects perfection, but do your best with grammar and paragraphing. Use punctuation, which is pretty much common sense. When it comes to rp, story is something that’s meant to develop when you write. It’s a two person job, but if you want to iron the details out beforehand approach your partner and decide what thread you want. Angst? Fluff? Comedy? Crack? Shippy? A mix of them? The story will flow on its own.
pffTH. Never stop writing stories because people think ‘it’s too dark.’ Stories are meant to express ourselves, and for some of us, it’s meant to vent. Projecting into your character helps. If you notice my threads sometimes coincide with how my mental state is, and that can get pretty dark. If it bothers someone they can just not read, but don’t ever feel like you have to censor what you write. Sometimes writing dark themes in school was the only way I got by when my depression was severe.
And oh thank you! Yes my Pink Diamond rps seem to be the popular ones on my blog (then again the Diamonds is what I seem to do the most lol) But…my drawings freak you out?….. D:….;-;
Anyway! I hope that cleared some stuff up~! And that is Jordan’s rping advice.
