I see you, Laura
On The Road Again
Cas was alone on the road for at least eight months. Maybe nine. It was long enough that he suspected that their dad may never be coming back for him. It wouldn’t surprise him. He’d gotten by hitch-hiking through towns, working occasional part-time jobs so he could put a roof over his head.
Dad didn’t answer his phone. Any of his phones. Always going to voicemail and Cas refused to give him the satisfaction of begging. Sam’s number was programmed into speed dial but remained untouched. It was stared at for months, even cued up once or twice but never called.
When dad showed up again he was still pissed. Said how Cas had screwed up the number one rule dad had given him ever since he was a babe; look after Sam. Above hunting, above fighting, above everything. Sammy was his responsibility and he screwed up. He was going to have to work his ass off to make this up. Did he understand that?
Dad needed him for help on a job. Everyone, literally everyone else was busy. So did he feel ready to nut up and help do some actual work or was he going to puss out and screw it up again?
Cas soon learned that dad wasn’t really up for forgiving and forgetting. When dad got drunk, he’d rant about how Cas had dishonoured his mother’s memory. How their mother had given her very life to protect Sam; how she would be ashamed to know Cas had just let the baby walk out the door. When he got like that Cas just downed his own drink and gave half-hearted agreements.
The first time Cas texted Sam was after one loud drunken fight between Cas and his dad that resulted in Cas getting a black eye.
[text: Sam] I hope you’re doing okay. Mom would never forgive me if you got into any trouble.
Hello Darkness My Old Friend
Cas didn’t look up until he’d heard the door close. For a moment, for one single stupid little moment there he’d thought that Sammy was going to stay and they could go on like nothing had happened. But now he was gone. Their dad was coming back tomorrow and he was going to be so pissed. Looking after Sam was his job, it was the one thing he could do. It was all he was good for. What good would he be now?
To say dad was pissed was an understatement. There was screaming and throwing and shouting and threats. It ended like the day before with the only person that Cas thought may actually give a crap about him walking out the door and promising that he wasn’t coming back.
The door slammed shut and he knew no one was going to come back through it. The room was paid up till the morning but Cas checked out and headed to the nearest dive bar. In the last 24 hours Cas had lost the little bit that he had left in this cruel bitch of a world and the only thing that would help would be getting drunk off his ass until he couldn’t feel anymore.
After the first three beers he got his phone out and stared at the number he had for his brother.

at least in my experience it's mostly because characters from some fandoms might not obviously work with the fandom my character is from. like... if the universes don't immediately make sense together, and since i have 0 knowledge about the other fandom, it could be harder for me to contribute to the plotting. ex: how to work with doctor who and world of warcraft. those are very different from one another and might be hard to explain to someone with no knowledge of one
and i think typically people will rp with ocs who are from their particular fandom, and ocs sometimes have multiple verses or no fandom affiliation to work with a bunch of fandoms. i think it's mostly people are worried about plotting or interacting with like... no common ground, i guess? like lightofimagination said. it's interesting to talk about!

It might be that they don't want to get something from the character's canon wrong? OCs tend to have everything important written out, but canon blogs sometimes have a tendency to leave out important parts because they assume people will know them?

Maybe they are afraid of getting something wrong? Like with an OC usually they have whole pages of info. But a lot of canon characters don't have that and someone might be afraid to ask? Idk
wELL i think i get where you guys are coming from! i didn't see it from that point of view and i was honestly curious as to why those two would be different from each other, but yeah. obviously, i would not trust a canon character (from unknown fandom) without an about page, just like i wouldn't trust an OC without an about page. it's just weird to me that people would instantly put aside canon characters just because they're from a fandom that person isn't in while being total acceptant of ocs
In regard to Morgan not adopting Ellie (yes I'm very far down my dash right now shh) it's probably because he's in the FBI? I mean, this is Morgan we're talking about. He constantly puts himself in ridiculously dangerous situations where there's a decent chance that he won't make it out alive. He probably figured that it would be even worse for Ellie to be adopted and then lose a second father and still end up in the system. Plus who would look after her when he was out of state on a case?
Yeah, I know that there are logical reasons as to why he doesn’t, but the way he is with her when they find her at the end of “The Longest Night”, and the concern he has when he realizes how shit the system was for her, he totally wanted to adopt her.
And he’s the one person that she actually trusts after what happened, and there’s no doubt in my mind that she would want to stay with him.
I don’t know when Morgan and Savannah became neighbors, but I’m imagining they would have had to have known each other for a while, because Morgan does not start serious relationships, so they actually probably already know each other at this point, and Savannah would totally help him out here.
Please just let me have this.
Ahk couldn’t help but glance back towards his ship, hoping to catch a glimpse of his would-be stowaway. Though he hadn’t remained hidden long and Ahk had sworn he was to get off in the next port, he was having second thoughts.
Striding over, coming up behind him, Ahk coughed a little obviously, to gain, Sam’s attention.
