Today we reviewed the daylight contribution to the office by the external mirrors. The two images show the mirrors in use and the mirrors retracted.
Obviously the mirrors create bright frames of light on the ceiling, but indirectly we measured a 270lux increase in light on the working plane (both measurements were taken out of direct illumination).
The opposite side of the office is benefitting from the bounced light on the ceiling (at midday). The double letter box strip is the light that is bouncing directly from the external mirrors, there’s a lot of visual noise surrounding the strips which is quite delicate, and softening.
Inside the office at midday: There is not a significant amount of light reaching the ceiling directly inside the office because the light is bouncing to the opposite side of the space. What we are seeing are some lovely prismatic rainbow effects from the mirror edges, possibly from the window frame mirrors we have installed.
This is the theory. The mirrors are adjustable to account for the height of the sun in the sky.
We have twin mirrors and sunshine, sweet!
Phase 1: light shelf trial
We have installed one of two mirrors onto the outside of the office.
The light shelves are hinged, for cleaning and adjustment
Inter-linked carabiners are used to adjust the angle of the shelf.
