Magnus felt his magic pulse through his veins and out of his palm, blasting away another Circle member. He dodged an attack from someone to his left and kicked the guy hard in the stomach, sending him flying backwards.
Beside him, Magnus could see Alec fighting with his seraph blade against a demon. This huge fight on the beach had been nothing but brutal, and Magnus was resorting to fist fighting to preserve whatever magic he had left in the case of an emergency.
Him and Alec hadn’t even spoken since the night of Max’s procedure, after Magnus walked away from Alec and almost broke down on the elevator ride up. As soon as Magnus had heard about the attack on the beach, he ran as fast has he could. The thought of Alec in danger was almost too much to bear, and he ended up getting there in the knick of time, managing to kill a giant demon dragon with Alec and Izzy’s help before the Circle members arrived.
Now it was pouring rain, cracks of thunder rippling through the air. Lightning illuminated the battle scene, as well as various colors of warlock magic. In the midst of the fight, Magnus found himself staying by Alec’s side, and he had a feeling that Alec didn’t really want to leave his.
“Magnus!”
Magnus whipped his head to the side to Alec, punching a Circle member in the face and using a small burst of magic against a demon crawling towards him.
“What?” Magnus shouted back above the thunderstorm and noise of the fight.
“I love you!” Alec replied after he took a moment to fling an arrow into a distant demon and stab another Circle member in the stomach.
“Is now really the best time?” Magnus said loudly, grabbing a discarded seraph blade off the ground and watching it come to life in a glowing red. He stabbed the Circle member gaining on Alec from behind, and Alec shot another arrow into the distance.
“Now might be the only time,” Alec said, turning around and meeting Magnus’ eyes, their chests suddenly pressed together.
Magnus got lost in the moment for a second, opening his mouth to respond when -
“Duck!”
Magnus pulled Alec down with him as a Circle member tried to swing at them, and Alec elbowed the guy in the nose and then in the chest, letting Magnus kick him down to the ground.
A new onslaught of demons came in, and Magnus and Alec circled each other while fighting them. They worked together, Magnus ducking while Alec shot an arrow over him, Alec swinging at a demon as Magnus stabs him. They covered each other from every corner, working together in a lethal dance.
“Magnus,” Alec shouted again, stabbing a Circle member and flinging their body on a demon to catch it off guard before shooting the demon in the chest. “I love you. I want you to know that. Whatever happens tonight, just know that.”
“Don’t you dare,” Magnus panted, scrubbing his wet hair out of his eyes as thunder boomed in the sky. “Don’t you dare insinuate that you’re going to die.”
The rain began to pour harder, and Magnus could see Alec was soaked and bone-deep exhausted. Everyone was. Luke wasn’t far, fighting with Maia and Simon. Magnus could see Izzy in the distant, killing a demon that was sneaking up on Meliorn. Wherever Clary and Jace were, taking care of Valentine and Jonathan, they needed to do it quick.
Thunder ripped through the sky like broken glass as Alec stabbed the demon right in front of Magnus, watching it disintegrate to pieces. Magnus looked up and caught Alec’s gaze.
This stupid, marvelous Shadowhunter Magnus fell for.
Alec’s dark hair was plastered to his forehead, and rain droplets were dripping off of Alec’s nose. There was a fire in his eyes that came from fighting. Sometimes Magnus forgot that Alec was brought up to be a soldier, and that fighting in combat was in his blood.
Beneath all that, however, was just a boy with a heart of gold.
“I love you, too.” Magnus responded. The world around them seemed to have frozen, everyone else background noise to that very moment. Alec actually smiled, and there was a nasty cut on his temple and a Circle member’s blood on his collar, and yet Alec was still beautiful and deadly and Magnus was so in love with him he could hardly breathe.
Alec grabbed the front of the jacket Magnus was wearing and tugged him forward, locking their lips together.
Magnus exhaled into the kiss, cupping the back of Alec’s neck to hold him close as they kissed on the battlefield. The rain kept pouring, and Magnus shivered, though that wasn’t entirely from the cold.
The moment seemed to last hours, but it still wasn’t enough. Next to them, they heard a grunt, and they broke apart, looking to their side where Jace just killed a demon that was about to attack them.
“Guys,” Jace said, looking exasperated, stabbing another demon to his left. “Guys, it’s done.”
Alec met Jace’s eyes, and Jace gave a short nod.
“They’re both dead.”
A wave of relief washed over the beach, because the hardest part was over. Clary and Jace were back helping them finish off the demons and Circle members that remained - but it was done.
Sebastian and Valentine were dead.
The fight continued on, but now even through their exhausted state, everyone was more determined than ever to finish this. There was finally an end in sight.
Alec shot arrows left and right, killing off anyone who came close to him. Magnus swung his red seraph blade, and Jace ran to get closer to Clary, kicking demons and killing along the way.
The wind picked up from the storm as Magnus killed another large demon next to Alec, before he heard:
“Look out!”
Just as Magnus turned around, he noticed Alec jump and fall, and a shout of pain cut through the noise like a knife.
“Alexander!”
Alec fell the the ground, clenching his teeth together in pain. There was a dagger sticking out of his shoulder, and blood was pooling out of the wound. Behind him, Magnus could hear Jace scream ‘you dick!’ before a man yelped and the Circle member fell to the ground, dead.
Magnus dropped the seraph blade and fell to his knees next to Alec, trying to assess the wound.
“Do you -” Alec started, hissing his teeth in pain and looking up at Magnus. “Have any more of that free of charge warlock TLC?”
“What are you -?” Magnus asked, before the memory hit him full force and he tried not to laugh, because Alec was hurt, god damn it. But Alec was smiling up at him and his eyes were shining bright full of hope and love, so Magnus leaned down and kissed him.
During their kiss, Magnus put a hand on Alec’s shoulder and pulsed magic into him as he slowly pulled the blade out. Alec gasped into his mouth and Magnus pulled away a little, their foreheads still touching as waves of magic rolled through Alec’s jacket and into his skin.
“Better?” Magnus asked, his voice quiet. The rain had calmed down, only a soft drizzle now, and the sound of chaos behind them was dimmed down.
“Better.” Alec said.
“As if I’d ever let anything happen to you,” Magnus said, cupping Alec’s face. Alec chuckled softly, putting pressure on his shoulder with his opposite hand. “I love you.”
Alec licked his lips and let out a breath, leaning into Magnus’ side.
“I love you too.”
The fight was over. The battle was won. Now, it was time to go home.
big s/o to kris @saltyalec for the amazing banner!! thank u!!
days of dark ( magnus/alec | pg13 | 2/? | 20k+ )
Alec can’t wrap his head around what’s happening. It’s insane, and yet somehow makes perfect and total sense.
He crawls to one of the walls and moves down it before backflipping off it and landing perfectly on his two feet. He’s doing things he’s never dreamed of before, and yet everything in his body is telling him that this is right.
Alec looks at his palms again and grins. He can hear the buzz of the city in his ears, and smells the air from the sea not too far away.
He flicks his hand up and presses down his middle and ring finger to his palm, causing the webbing to shoot from his wrist. Alec climbs it and swings back and forth, getting some momentum before shooting another web and swinging from that one, cheering throughout it all.

Alec knocks on the door of the loft, holding the plastic bag behind his back and bouncing on his toes.
Despite the fact that he and Magnus have kissed - twice! his brain helpfully supplies - Alec still feels weird intruding into Magnus’ home. Jace was out today doing god knows what, but he’d texted Alec that morning letting him know that Magnus wasn’t feeling well.
Alec hadn’t even known warlocks could get the flu. But he did some research, and found a small cafe in the East Village that made excellent chicken noodle soup from scratch. He isn’t sure if their first date last night and their kiss indicates that they’re boyfriends, but Alec so badly wants to find out.
After two minutes of standing at Magnus’ door, Alec knocks again. When he gets no response for the second time, he reaches for the handle, finding the door unlocked.
Alec slowly makes his way through the apartment, not used to how still it feels. Usually Magnus is the center of the room, as bright as the sun. Magnus gives life to the apartment, his movements fluid and calculated, as if he’s doing a mindless dance. Alec can’t help but be enraptured every time.
After turning on the kettle and setting the plastic bag he was holding on the island countertop, Alec made his way towards Magnus’ bedroom. The door is slightly agar, and Alec knocks once before slowly pushing it open.
“Magnus?”
“Alexander,” Magnus says from the bed, and Alec enters the room fully, closing the door behind him. “I’m afraid I’m not in the best state to greet you properly.”
Alec chuckles, taking in the sight before him. Magnus is sprawled onto his lavender silk sheets, hair a bird’s nest on the top of his head, and he’s shirtless. The trash bin next to the bed almost overflowing with tissues, and Chairman Meow is curled up at the end of the bed, fast asleep.
“How are you feeling?” Alec asks, approaching the bed slowly, forcing himself to keep his eyes locked with Magnus’ and not look below his collarbones.
“I’ve been better,” Magnus replies before sneezing. “It’s just a -”
“Warlock flu, yeah,” Alec finishes for him, snatching the tissue box off of the bedside table and passing it to Magnus. “I may or may not have looked it up. Catarina Loss wrote an essay on it and said that this special herbed soup helps - so I brought some?”
“You brought me soup,” Magnus says after he blows his nose, blinking slowly.
“Yeah?” Alec says, shrugging a shoulder.
“I was just about to magic myself some,” Magnus says, still looking at Alec like he’s the strangest thing he’s ever seen.
“Well, it’s a good thing I came by then, yeah?” Alec says, sitting down on the edge of the bed. “Using your magic will only make you weaker. You need all the strength you can get.”
Magnus just continues staring at him, and Alec shifts in his seat. After a long pause, Magnus smiles brightly, and despite the bags under his eyes and the redness of his nose, he’s the most beautiful man Alec’s ever seen.
“I really want to kiss you right now, Alexander,” Magnus says ever so softly. Alec grins despite the blush on his cheeks.
Slowly, Alec positions his hands on either side of Magnus’ head and leans down, pressing a kiss on the corner of Magnus’ mouth. When he pulls away, Magnus is pouting up at him, though his hands are now resting on Alec’s hips.
“You’re a tease,” Magnus huffs.
“Well, hurry up and get better, then,” Alec replies, sitting back down properly on the bed. “Because I want to kiss you properly.”
“Is that a promise?” Magnus asks, reaching out a lazy hand to Alec, which he takes instantly, intertwining their fingers.
“Absolutely,” Alec says, running his thumb across Magnus’ knuckles. “Now how about I make you some green tea and then you rest, hm? Let me take care of you.”
“That sounds like an excellent plan,” Magnus says, curling his arm around his pillow and snuggling deeper into bed.
When Alec returns a minute later with the tea, Magnus is fast asleep, and Alec bites down on his lip from smiling at the sight of him. He sets down the tea on the bedside table and makes his way towards Magnus’ door so he can reheat the soup and maybe watch some TV, when he hears a soft “stay”.
Alec turns around and sees Magnus reaching out a hand, his eyes still closed. This time Alec allows himself to smile, and he kicks off his shoes and jacket before getting into bed and draping his arm over Magnus, pulling him close.
“Always,” Alec whispers back, and he feels Magnus shift and press closer to him, falling right back asleep.
A week later, when Alec ends up getting the regular flu, Magnus is there to take care of him, smothering him in kisses he claims are magic, and Alec thinks that actually, they just might be.

“It’s easy, Simon.”
“No, it’s terrifying.”
Jace sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose as his boyfriend looked up the height of the rope, rubbing his hands together. Simon had been putting off climbing the rope for two weeks now due to his fear of heights, but he needed to at least attempt it in order to pass gym class.
So, because Jace was a loving and caring boyfriend, and was one of the first people to climb the rope, he offered to help Simon overcome his fear.
“You don’t even have to get to the top, babe. You just need to try,” Jace said, grabbing the rope and offering it to Simon.
Simon flinched back, staring at the rope with wide eyes.
“What if - what if I start climbing it and it detaches from the ceiling and I come plummeting to my death?” Simon responded, crossing his arms.
“I’m only a little offended that you think I’d let anything happen to you,” Jace said, giving him an unimpressed look.
Simon bit down on his lip, and Jace instantly recognized that expression as Simon trying to hold back a smile. Jace offered the rope again with a smirk, realizing that Simon’s resolve was crumbling.
“Fuck, fine! Fine, okay, cool,” Simon stuttered out, grabbing the rope with two hands.
Jace let go and took a step back, giving Simon an encouraging nod.
“Just a tip: whatever you do, don’t look down,” Jace said, giving Simon a thumbs up when he smiled weakly.
“Okay, I can do this. I got this,” Simon said. Jace barely heard Simon’s quiet ‘come on spiderman’ that he whispered to himself before he was off, climbing the rope.
Jace watched him intently, and while he was almost positive Simon would stop at most halfway up, Simon just kept going. He continued to grab the rope and hoist himself up, and Jace’s jaw actually dropped when Simon reached the top and rang the bell.
Izzy and Jace were the only ones able to reach the top in their entire grade.
Jace cheered for him loudly, pumping his fist in the air.
“Jace?” Simon shouted from the top. “I don’t think I can’t get down.”
“One hand after the other, babe, you got this,” Jace replied loudly, watching Simon hesitantly move back down the rope.
A little more than halfway down, Simon panicked and dropped down on the matt below with a soft thud. Jace ran to him immediately, shaking his head fondly.
“I can’t believe after almost a year of dating you I haven’t learned to stop underestimating you,” Jace said, laughing as he hoisted Simon up, gripping his shoulders. “You did it, man!”
“I did, didn’t I?” Simon said, blinking a few times before grinning widely. He pushed his glasses up his nose before grabbing Jace’s face and kissing him, grinning into the kiss.
Jace cupped the back of Simon’s head, kissing him deeper. Simon pulled away after a moment, kissing Jace’s lips again briefly.
“Thank you,” Simon said, cupping Jace’s face. “For helping me today.”
“Anytime,” Jace replied, smiling as he pushed Simon’s hair out of his face. “Now you just have to do it in gym class tomorrow.”
Simon let out a dramatic groan as Jace laughed, pulling him closer and kissing him again.
