If I Lignify one of the HOU gods and the now 0/4 Treefolk dies does the return ability trigger?

No.

Triggered abilities of creatures that trigger when that creature dies trigger from the battlefield, but a creature with Lignify won’t have any such abilities while it’s on the battlefield and thus it’ll just die with no trigger.
