Hey quick question is the Asimov fandom dead? I’ve rekindled my adolescent obsession with Daneel and Giskard
Lije Baley and R. Daneel Olivaw.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Please look at how cute this is! I got another commission from @lijeah! Also found on twitter under the same handle!
as someone who's tempted to pick up dbh because of connor (though, not until i can snag it in a bargain bin for pocket change, because it's a david cage game) thank you for pointing me towards asimov (and giving actual specific titles to look at) I'm gonna go read those instead
Omg glad I could help!
Asimov’s stuff is fantastic, especially for its time. There are some things that haven’t aged so well- it’s ‘50s SF, so Representation is at a minimum, and they’re very talk-y stories- but Asimov is great at writing mysteries and at thinking through the implications of Future Ideas.
a couple things if you’re thinking about picking up Asimov’s stuff:
a) read i, robot somewhere along the line. seriously. you don’t have to read it before the Lije books- they stand on their own - but i: robot explains how we got from the ‘50s to the Future History of the robot chronicles. it also does a really good job of spelling out how the robots in asimov’s world work, and it has Susan Calvin, who is a badass lady scientist even by modern standards.
b) there are other robot short stories by Asimov that are not part of the ‘main’ robot canon. if you like the series and want more of it when you’re done, hunt down one of Asimov’s short story collections. Robot Dreams is the one I think has most of the not-main-timeline robot stories.
c) my personal opinion is that the first three robot chronicles books (i, robot, the caves of steel, and the naked sun) are the best ones. as time goes on, Asimov started trying to cross his Robots universe with his Foundation ‘verse. i think these two great tastes do not taste so great together, mostly because it’s fanservicey and the universes work on very different rules. so if you start seeing Asimov drop references to things it seems like you ought to know about but don’t, that’s why. most of the fanservice is in the later Foundation books, not the robot books, but I know The Robots of Dawn has some.
but YEAH the Robot Chronicles are great and as far as i’m concerned daneel and his cop partner lije are a canon couple.
i mean ffs there is a canon ‘there is only one bed what do’ scene. it doesn’t go anywhere, but that’s what fanfic is for.
Trying to figure out how to draw my man Lije.
i didn’t know what to write here so i’ll just say that “the robot series” is very interesting and if u like sci-fi books u should read it
Lije Baley (Robot book series)
If Elijah "Lije" Baley (Isaac Asimov's Robot series) was in Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire, which Great House of Westeros would they be part of or at least the most affiliated with?
House Targaryen
House Stark
House Lannister
House Baratheon
House Greyjoy
House Tully
House Arryn
House Martell
House Tyrell
