the problem with tumblr. these are all photos of the notes my heavily tagged art posts, also compared to my shitposts.

let's take this compared to my shitposts, of which i spent a SIGNIFICANTLY less amount of effort on.

all the shitposts took less time to make combined than making a single one of the art pieces. all of my notes from all my art barely stacks up to the INSANE amount of notes the stupid joke posts get. im so fucking tired of this shit. i don't care who you are. i don't care what you do. i do care about the amount of love my posts get, because it's quite common to like positive attention, and im not an exception to that. reblog things that people put genuine love and time into, instead of something you could put together yourself in the matter of 5 minutes.

a comment on the like vs. reblog ratio:

i 100% agree it’s due to a rise in aesthetic blogs. but i also think it’s has to do with followers becoming very entitled as to what goes on a blog they are following.

a little while ago i made a conscious decision to like things less and reblog more. this led to, and i’m not kidding, anonymous asks being sent to me asking me to “queue more and reblog less” because they “hated i reblogged 30 buffy the vampire gifsets in a row”.

now you see, the issue with qeueuing is there is a queue limit of 300. i’m almost always at that limit because i queue a lot, so if i see something i like i have only two choices: like it or reblog it right then and there. of course i’m gonna choose to reblog it, i like to keep my likes almost empty and i also want to support content creators.

but i will literally get messages from people telling me i’m ANNOYING them by REBLOGGING, because whatever it is i’ve reblogged isn’t something they are interested in, or if it is it’s just “too much all at once and i need to pace myself”.

this is ridiculous and i’ve been on tumblr for many, many years and i never used to get messages complaining about this (and it’s always something i’ve done). in fact, i remember back in the day people used to schedule “mass spam times” where they’d reblog dozens of graphics a specific content at a specific time and their followers loved it, like “oh tuesday is supernatural day!!” because it meant followers didn’t have to go in the tags to search for content themselves because the person they followed did all the work for them. i remember them posting warnings saying “ok i’m about to mass spam iron man so if you don’t want to see it go ahead and block the tag iron man!” and they’d get messages thanking them for all the good tony stark content, and the people who didn’t want to see it would quietly block that take just for that day so they didn’t have to scroll through 60 iron man gifsets in a row.

guys, blacklisting tags is a thing. if i’m annoying you because i’m sharing too much, block that tag. don’t make it my problem by sending me a message. idk. this is just food for thought but it’s something i’ve noticed.
