Like Spring

It was a beautiful day outside. Sitting in her favorite spot by the lake, Lily couldn't have been more content. With her eyes closed, she listened to the birds' cheerful twitter, relishing the gentle rays of sun that caressed her skin along with the pleasant breeze to turn the water surface into a painting of circles and lines, and drank in the besotting scent of damp earth, freshly cut grass, and the loveliest of primroses. 

Lily loved spring, the season of new life, of new beginnings, loved how it lifted winter's curse heaviness and all-consuming gray, making her shoulders light and her steps bouncy with joy.

As she let her thoughts wander, she couldn't help but remember how before, Severus had been keeping her company in this very spot, how they'd talked about everything and anything, admiring nature's most wondrous of magic together. It was then that she wondered whether Severus was welcoming spring in a similar place, whether his good-for-nothing friends had broken him of such sensibilities for good.

Upon feeling an intense gaze on her instead of the sunlight she'd been basking in, she slowly opened her eyes, and leaning over her was no one other than Severus himself.

Immediately, her features darkened.

“What are you doing here, Severus? This is my spot, and in case you forgot, we're no longer on speaking terms.”
