Severus Snape Headcanon 23: His Parents’ Deaths

Trigger Warning: mention of spousal abuse, homicide, and suicide

Tobias kicked Snape out of the house as soon as he was 17 and told him to never return.

Snape would write letters to his mother until Tobias discovered them, beat her, and threatened her. Her replies stopped. Severus assumed she had stopped caring and tried to move on.

In his 5th year of teaching, he received word that his mother had been murdered by Tobias (probably accidentally during a beating) and had then killed himself.

He couldn’t bear to go to the funeral so he went to work instead. He told no one and carried about his day as usual. At the end of the day he barely made it to the supply closet to cry.

No one has ever asked about his parents, so no one has ever known what happened.

Fey was perched on a tree, resting after a long day of causing mischief and havoc. It was a cool night and the cold air made her pixie like wings twitch. The sprite let out a sight before looking up to the night sky, for some reason star gazing always seemed to calm her down. But her attention was drawn to something on the ground below.

It had been a mistake truly but once she got a hold of her bearings, and a newspaper, her genius mind began to whirl. She could make changes...she could save hundreds, if not thousands, of people....friends, relatives, innocents.

Her first thought was to go to Dumbledore and promptly join the Order. But the moment she started to, she heard a voice that sounded quite a bit like Harry's reminding her of 'the greater good.' She'd slunk away with that thought and began reassessing what she knew and was capable of.

That was when she realized she needed to work the problem from the other end. If she joined the Death Eaters and informed on them in secret, there were so many more possibilities!

She started looking for an in. She knew all the people who were in the ranks but unsure who would be the best about getting an invite. Then it happened one day in Diagon Alley, she'd been on her way to the Apothecary when she'd ran into a surprisingly strong chest. About to apologize, as she'd been lost in her own mind, she stopped short when she recognized him as her own potions professor....Severus Snape! That was her in.

When he silenced her she inwardly smirked. He was definitely a no nonsense man. As for the students, she found it easy to pay them no mind.

She followed him wondering what his class looked like. When they arrived she slightly wrinkled her nose at the smell. It wasn't a bad smell, just really strong.

She also noticed it colder. She wrapped her long black cloak tighter around her as she looked around.

She looked down at her potions book. She had read it from front to back and not one potion in here had been the one she had needed. Well that is why she was here. She was determined to figure it out.
