i went to a poetry slam last night and rudy francisco closed the night with the most beautiful love poem ive ever heard.....like he went into this run about loving this girl in past lives after past lives, never quite requiting and then......in this life.....holding her tight and loving her harder bc he couldnt stand to lose her again....i....

OK, but honestly...on its most basic level S8 is really nothing more than a incredibly well written and brilliantly directed soap opera. What distracts you from the cheesy mess this could very realistically be is 1) the way in which it's told 2) it's production value and 3) who is telling it: Netflix. I'm not saying this to shit on the show, on the contrary, now that it clicked with me it's even more impressive that they've managed to pull this off. If you shot this thing on a lot in Studio City at 60FPS and aired it weekdays at noon no one would buy any of these storylines but they've elevated the whole thing to a point where instead of coming across as stupid and contrived as it could, it reads as original and prime quality. I mean...most (if not all) of these characters are text book examples of over used tropes and cliches but for some reason I don't hate it??? The fact that they've made what could have been a laughing stock in anyone else's hands into this is part of the reason this show is kind of genius.
