Life, reality and existence have no purpose. This is a typical description of nihilism and how many of the more intelligent members of the current generation in urban, 'developed' communities think today. But it is wholly incoherent.

This worldview and personal philosophy, if applied to how we conduct ourselves in the real world, results in a self-destructive way of life in which depression and risky behavior dominate.

To escape this, many of those who believe that life and existence are meaningless construct 'lesser' meanings and purposes to life out of their own spheres of reality. So this life and this existence may have no purpose or meaning, but my family, my career, my country, my culture, my political ideology, my race etc give me purpose and meaning.

But this contradicts the first premise. If life and existence has no purpose and no meaning, why should your own sphere of reality possess any purpose or meaning? Your own life and existence are just derivatives of the universal entities of life and existence.

You only do this because if you didn't, you wouldn't have a reason to be good to your family & kids, you wouldn't have a reason to go to school or work, you wouldn't have a reason to have friends and be good to others, you wouldn't have a reason to wake up in the morning and just live. You would probably see no point in the decision to either turn your life around or commit suicide. So you see that dark path, and you construct purpose & meaning to save yourself in the short-term.

But that means that even in the grand scheme of things, life has a purpose. It has meaning. This is an inescapable reality. And none can provide that grand purpose or meaning except religion. If life, reality and existence had no purpose or meaning, we would not be able to see any purpose or meaning in our own lives. There is no biological reason for that instinct to exist. There is no biological reason for purpose and meaning to be critical for the normal functioning of the human being. Otherwise it would be sufficient for us to be like a chimp, dolphin or any other intelligent animal, fulfilling basic animal instincts albeit with a higher degree of intelligence.

-I was told you two have a personal relationship too but, how and when did you guys met?

Aoki: About five years ago, at DEAD END reunion, Morrie introduced us to each other. We didn’t start to get in touch immediately but it seems that Kaoru liked downy’s revival (In 2013, they released 5th  anthology “Untitled”). You even talked about us in an overseas interview* didn’t you?

Kaoru: That album was shocking and frustrating. I listened to it for a while. I was singing it before a concert in the dressing room and the overseas crew asked me ‘”Who are they?”. When I told them “It’s a japanese band”, everyone got surprised.

-What do you mean with “frustrating?” Kaoru: Of course, Aoki is a guitarist too but I think as composer he is  outstanding.  I feel that his ideas “attack” you from an  unexpected angle.
