This morning I will drive to a memorial to celebrate the life of our family friend, Iris Ebner. I don’t recall a time in my life when Iris wasn’t a colorful character in our story. . . When I was young, I thought she was “Dad’s babysitter” growing up. I found out later in life that he was teasing her. She was younger than him. They dated very briefly but wound up being friends. . . She was a talented artist and a remarkable interior designer. She hung out at Studio 54 and I think she knew Warhol, but again, that may have been urban legend. . . She got my teenage sister high and I being the herd I was, was horrified. Now, I just laugh thinking about what a free spirit she was and how much time we spent laughing with Iris. . . What she did take seriously was my music. She came to shows, talked me up to anyone who would listen, tried to get me “meetings” with important people, that never quite worked out, but her intentions were sincere. . . I can’t imagine a world without the joy, laughter and Joie de Vivre that she had. Thank you Iris.
