Ooo! then out of curiosity... 1) I know I've seen some of your planning/character posts over the past month or so, but do you have a summary of the story itself at this point? 👀 2) What part of the work so far are you most excited about sharing (without spoilers), and/or what part have you enjoyed planning out the most? :3o
1) Basically the story is part-journey fic, part-mystery, part-pseudo game plot. Jude Farr goes on a journey (reluctantly), gets pulled into strange happenings, starts to uncover what’s going on, and becomes personally invested, all while trying to understand who they are, what they want, and how to make friends.
The summary on AO3 (in my drafts) is as follows:
Sixteen-year-old Jude Farr loves Pokémon but has no interest in being a Pokémon trainer. The Pokémon League has too many people, too much noise, and too much pressure for their taste. But their father wants Jude to stretch their legs and explore the limits of who they are. Given two options: get a job in their small town or take a year to wander the region on a Pokémon journey, Jude chooses the latter.
Jude plans a journey filled with wandering, exploration, and peace and quiet, but their plans are quickly waylaid by other trainers, including the younger sibling of the current Champion and a wannabe Pokémon anthropologist with no sense of self-preservation.
These aren’t the only interruptions to Jude’s plans, either. Strange happenings across Altera start to disturb their Pokémon journey, and Jude finds themself delving into this mystery to understand just what’s happening to their home. Yet the deeper they get, the more dangerous the journey becomes, and the more Jude’s plans, and their ability to back out, become a thing of the past.
2) Honestly I have a few scenes I am really excited about. One is the first time Jude meets Nolan, two is the time Jude meets Nolan after meeting Rena, and three is the first time Jude meets Astrid. I’m also super hype for the first gym battle, because of all the world-building and plot there is to it.
The part I’ve enjoyed planning out the most though is the villain motivations and how it affects the region. It’s interesting to write out the fic, in general bullet points, from the villain’s point of view. I also know a ton about Jude’s team later on and how they train and how they team helps with the plot. So that’s awesome.
Thanks friend!
