which is such a shame! because i didn't see it coming from a mile away — i've been quite offline the past few months, but no hype or anything surrounding the end of the show? that was weird to me :/

Any tips on drawing shading and/or lighting? you do it really well, and i’ve been trying to study how, but i’m not sure i can figure it out

Thank you! :D And this I can explain I think! Tho I wanna disclaimer that I did Not make up this technique - I learned it from a post on tumblr ages ago but I’ve never been able to find it since and it Sucks. 

But, this is the gist of how I shade - there are a couple of difference stages I go to or stop at depending on the piece. And it got long so under the cut it goes woooshh

My basic shading it this:

Here’s the color wheel difference for one of the color/shading color combos to hopefully show what I mean by cooler/darker:

See how I don’t just make it closer to black, but instead make it more red and... darker saturated? I almost never just desaturate or blacken my tones to shade - I like changing the color balance too. (Sorry for the bad quality lol whoops)

If I was just doing a simple picture, that’s where I’d stop, but for more in depth pieces I go on to the next step: Multiply layers!

I say use whatever color for the multiply bc it really depends on what mood you’re going for for what color to use - I default to a warm grey because its pretty neutral and goes well with my typical warm pallet, but there’s times when blues or purples or greens or whatever are necessary too! Play around with it! Oftentimes I will also layer up multiply layers to get gradients on top of cell shading and such, but I don’t want this to go on longer than it already is so I’m sticking to basics lol

Then for a final highlight, I move into using an overlay layer:

Overlay layers are Powerful so I tend to almost never use them at full strength (this one is at 89% opacity)  and more often than not I layer them up just like the multiply and use many different colors depending on the mood, so again play around here!

I hope that makes sense/is useful! Here’s a final look at my layers next to the cat for reference on how I arrange them (Layer 3 is the lineart):

and here’s an example of a finished piece with all it’s layers to show what a big coloring job might look like by the end:

As you can see I act like I have a process but in the end whatever works, works xD I seriously encourage you to just play around with these techniques and see what you like to do!!

Yeah! We struggle with regulating our emotions, which means we can be more emotional and take things a lot harder than neurotypical people. (But in the same vein, emotional dysregulation can mean that we feel less than others, sometimes. It depends on the person and the situation.)

can I just like. thank you??? so much?? I wasn’t the person who asked, but just in general, that you wrote that WHOLE take on how boscha would be involved in the whole willimity thing. The way that it all just blended together so well, like i’m still so surprised. All that alone is enough for me to genuinely have hope for boscha’s future ark, and how she would be as herself, and not a bully. Once again. thank you for that and your wonderful art

Thank you for taking the time to read that monstrosity!!!! I do think Boscha can turn her life around for the better if she puts in that effort (I also just love the idea of all of her friends helping her be better).

Hey! quick question for your au where eda joins the emperors coven and lilith gets the curse: would it still be the same with luz coming into the world, or would it also be reversed with amity and luz switching places?

it would still be luz as the human! the only difference would be that she met lilith instead! there would be some differences in their dynamic, such as lilith would probably be more eager to teach luz than eda was (and eda doesn’t like mentoring/teaching the kids that wanna join the coven/whatever it was that lilith did in the coven)
