Your post about Hordak being in purple light gave me a random thought. Was there any reason you decided to go with purple for her? The original entrants had red hair after all.

Well her classic hair color and design varied depending on which version you looked at:

I tried a bunch of different hair colors in the magenta-violet zone (this was before we had a dedicated color stylist so I did color design for most of my own early characters,) and her current dusty warm purple hair color just fit her and looked the best with her outfit. She also started off with more gold accents and girly, cutesy clothes, way closer to the classic. Again, it just did not fit her personality or what we needed out of the character. Here’s just one of the concepts near the start of working on her:

I’m glad we changed directions for her; it was too cutesy, feminine, bright, and read too young. We wanted her to look more mature, as well as less put-together or at least less focused on her appearance, and her outfit needed to be focused on function first. So she got thick work gloves, welding arm covers, thick loose cargo overalls, and steel-toed boots. I love that they actually let me put a permanent grease stain on her shirt, I think that’s really a revealing detail for who she is and what she prioritizes. She needed to have a dark-ish color palette, so when she flipped to the horde side, she would fit in. She also needed to look at home in the poorly-lit, spooky crypto castle. It took a longer than usual time to get her right, but I’m really glad I got the opportunity to explore her personality, as I’ve said already she’s still my favorite character I worked on.
