Anyone else getting a lot of sniperspy recomended to them even of they don't ship it? I guess it's just a popular pairing? I'm afraid if I mark not interested I won't get any tf2 stuff at all. Nothing against the shippers or the ship btw it's just not my cup of tea personally.

Hot? Take but I'd argue Sniper is one of the more well put together mercs. He's the only one who wears jewlery (his watch) and the cosmetic that takes sniper's hat off implies he wears hair gel. Fanon implies it's an unkempt mullet like style but in canon it's short and slicked back. Although he pees in jars so idk.

If you wanna be period accurate, you should add 60s slang to tf2 fics I think. And also try not to use words that were not common pre 1970s. (For example, the mercs were likely to call weed 'grass.')

Hardhat and Egghead were both common phrases back then, so the mercs do use 60s phrases.

Not trying to hate on anyone's oc but like. Come on, the guy grew up around strong people and masculine women who made him feel weak and outcast. Why would he want to be reminded of that? He'd probably resent any woman stronger than him like be fr.

I get what you mean but you're a bit misguided. Feminine women can be physically strong and vice versa. I don't think he'd resent physically strong women, (I ship him with bronislava as well) I think he just likes to feel strong as well.

I think in a relationship Sniper likes to feel like the stronger one (at least physically) because he grew up where everyone else was stronger than him, despite him still being incredibly strong by normal human standards.

So having a partner who sees him as strong, having a partner that lets him carry them, who he can protect, ect makes him feel more confident and that he's still strong even if he isn't built like the typical Australian.

That's part of why he got with tailor. Cause she swooned over his strength from the moment she met him. But that doesn't make her weak. Out of the two of them, she's more outspoken. And while see seems like a dumb blonde girly girl, she's actually very well read.

I feel like I'm in the minority because I take a more grounded approach to the tf2 canon and focus on making things accurate to the time. I understand that others have different priorities, and you're not wrong for having your own ideas of canon, I just want to find others to talk to who think similarly.

Btw when I say "accurate to the time" I don't mean make the mercs homophobic bigots. I mean in terms of music, clothes, interior design, tech, counter culture, ect. Without stonewall which took place during tf2s time we wouldn't have pride! Which is why I think the tf2 fandom (esp the lgbtq side) should research more, because tf2s time was such an important part of queer history.

I am happy there is a small but vocal minority that is complaining about fanon scout. His fanon interpretation is a completely different character at this point. But honestly, I want to bring up another fanon portrayal that is just as bastardized but I think glossed over. Sniper. Now, why him specifically? It's because, while other mercs have fanon interpretations that can be out of character, I'd argue he is fetishized nearly as much as scout.

One thing is that people automatically think sniper being an introvert is equal to him being shy and socially akward. And while I don't think hes a smooth talker like scout or engie, he can hold a conversation. But that's not really the point I want to talk about. I want to talk about the people who write Sniper like he's a clingy, feral animal out of an a/b/o fic.

I tend to avoid stuff like the dingo sniper cause idk, it just seems... dehumanizing? Especially when you consider Australian stereotypes and how they were seen by the British in the past - primitive, violent, and dangerous. Like obviously Sniper is a walking stereotype but he's not portrayed as savage. Hate to break your bubble, but sniper showers. Probably everyday considering his work makes him sweat and you can get genuine illnesses from not bathing properly. Hes seen brushing his teeth in meet the sniper. Hes not your unkempt wild man fantasy, and hes not a chad who needs to protect his precious uwu omega scout baby. Yes, he pisses in jars and is pretty rugged looking, but where else is he gonna go in the middle of a battlefield? Honestly I don't get the people with this weird obession of sniper being gross and musky.

I know so many people on this beautiful website tumblr.com are touch starved, but Sniper is probably the least clingy merc out of them. If you are touch starved, Sniper is probably the worst merc to be in a relationship with. That man has avoidant written all over him. I don't understand the people who write him as clingy, give me my touch averse sniper. Maybe its just me being touch averse but it's frustrating when I want to read smth and sniper is clingy. Sniper wanting to be intimate but struggling to is much more interesting and creates more conflict IMO. Give me a Sniper/reader fic where reader learns to respect snipers space. Give me a Sniper/reader fic where reader learns there are other ways to be romantic besides touch. Give me a sniper/reader fic about sniper feeling comfortable enough to cuddle for the first time.

I also want to talk about aroace sniper. No hate to anyone who has this hc but as an ace person I feel like making the loner character aroace is just pushing more stereotypes. Why is it always Sniper and not Demo? Or Medic? Cause they're social? It kinda stinks that even the lgbtq community isn't immune to stereotyping aroace people. So if you hc Sniper as aroace consider hcing other characters as aroace too.

Fem sniper wears a skirt not cause shes super girly or anything but so she can make jarate easier. Its harder when you gotta unbutton your pants, you know?
