need a norwegian name for your wip?

norwegian characters in english books are not that common, in my experience, but still there's some names i love that i really want to share.

for this i have chosen to lean on the newest baby name trend in norway; finding the oldest most norwegian name in your family tree and naming your kid that. this means more common/popular names like ola, ida, magnus, sunniva, etc will not be listed (though i can make a post like that too, if that's something you want to see).

a lot of these have an origin that traces back to the viking age and i tried to avoid names that came after christianity. you'll see it esp in names that have for example bjørn (from old norse for bear), thor/tor (like the god), -hild (from old norse for battle), -mund (from old norse for protection, i'm pretty sure).

i tried to keep to names that either are very rare (less than 10 people share the first name) or that are old and coming back - you have no idea how many church records i just went through to find some good old ones. hope some of these could come to use for some! feel free to message, send an ask, or leave a reply if you have questions about spelling, pronunciations, or anything else.

(sidenote, i say "norwegian", but some of these can be used in other scandi countries as well, either with the same spelling or something similar to it.)

i could never be a professional published author bc like. i see all the interview questions authors are asked about writing processes and such..... like i'd just say "idk write when you feel like or when the hyperfixation commands".

i wouldnt have any writing advice beyond "do what you want?? or google 'writing advice by famous authors' if you care about their opinions"

i still don't understand how authors answer the "writing advice" questions lmao

one thing i've learned over the years of writing is that character sheets and really limiting and boring for me; like it makes my characters feel really flat, like i'm filling out one of those forms you get from a doctor or those awful "get to know" events at the beginning of a new semester. it also used to make me feel like i had to know ridiculous things like uhh what their fav food to order at a restaurant is, when it doesnt really add any depth to the character.

writing a paragraph or two about the character is much better and makes it easier to establish the vibe of them. like instead of writing "flaws: short temper" you write the description of their short temper, how it compares to a positive trait they have or if the short temper can be positive in certain situations; like does the little brother of the mc appreciate the short temper because it's the mc being protective of them? does the short temper extend to a noise that makes them argue with their friend a lot? idk, i feel like trying to describe that is much better for figuring out your character than simply writing "flaws: short temper". if you're lucky you might even get a good character voice out of it.

questions i'd never think i'd ask but what happens if a werewolf while in wolf form gets pregnant by a wolf that is not a werewolf. or if a wolf gets pregnant by a werewolf. like will they give birth to actual wolf pups or a human-wolf hybrid?

interesting that when i write fanfics i mostly only write fanfics with male character povs, but when i write original fiction i often forget to make male characters at all

most of my knowledge of shows like criminal minds and ncis comes from reading crossover fics where my favourite criminals (from white collar, supernatural, etc) get arrested by them and have to criminal mastermind themselves out of the situation

why are so many pjo fanfics tagged with "au - modern setting" when many of them mean "no powers" or "no greek/roman gods/demigods"
