Dragon Age Inspired Dialogue Prompts
Ohhhhh this one was FUN. Thank you so much for sending it! This is set during one of the conversations Solas has in the Inquisitor's quarters - the one where he remarks on how surprised he is to see they, as a Qunari, are capable of self restraint. Yeah....
"Please tell me you are lying."
Solas's back stiffens. This is not the response he had foreseen, and it takes precious seconds to gather himself from this stumble. He believes the Inquisitor - Kai, as she insists, the sense of familiarity still rough about its edges - does not take notice. A faint narrowing of his eyes, the momentary shift of the muscle in his jaw. She is observant, but he has outplayed others far more discerning than her.
"I am not," he says, because it is the truth. He chooses his next words carefully, hands tightening about his wrists where they rest at the small of his back. And he watches. Closely. "You are remarkable, Inquisitor. A credit to your race and, if you will forgive my bluntness, a companion I had not thought to find such enjoyment in the company of."
The tension he had seen slip through her body returns, its strength doubled. Doubt raises its head in his chest, roiling at the sight of her towering before him this way. The gentle face she had worn for him upon his arrival has vanished. The smile - the same slanted grin she'd first turned upon him at her awakening in the mountains, the one which had sparked such a queer sense of intrigue and lured him to her side - writhes in upon itself, her once soft mouth now a knotted frown. He cannot help the pull his fingers make toward his magic, the sight of such a powerful creature as she bearing down on him this way incapable of not seeming a threat.
But there is something else beneath the anger which baffles him further still. Something deep, old and, if the resignation he hears in her sigh can be believed, familiar.
He realizes - too late, far too late - that his careful words were not careful enough.
"'A credit to my race'. How flattering that you think of me as such a curious specimen." There is a sheen to her eyes now. It catches the late afternoon sunlight as she turns her back on him. "You should see yourself out, Solas. It isn't safe for you here, after all. I may lose control of myself and turn back into a mad, slavering beast, and I would so hate to disappoint you."
