Something “Special” just arrived for #gibsunday! It’s a an original 1958 Gibson Les Paul Special Solid Body. This limed mahogany beauty comes in a black hard shell case and it’s original brown alligator soft shell case is included. Link in our profile. - This is a very clean and completely original 1958 example of a single-cutaway Les Paul Special, looking little used even nearly 65 years on. 1958 was the last year for this original single-cutaway Les Paul Special design, which was transformed in to a double-cut instrument for the '59 model year. One of the rarest and most interesting #guitars I have ever had the privilege to photograph: 1955 #Gibson #LesPaul Junior...in original natural finish. The first time I posted this #guitar I got a message from someone who is a world-renowned guitar finisher, and a person I respect in the guitar industry, who told me that this is in fact the very earliest version of the "limed mahogany" finish that nowadays we call TV Yellow rather than a pure "natural" finish. And the guitar does have "TV Model" silk screened on the headstock, so this new datum would tend to correlate. My information source went on to say that in the earliest version of the TV finish, the white layer was sprayed on very sparingly over natural pore filler. Whether this is "earliest TV" or "natural" it was only one of about 20 made in this finish EVER. Thanks to everyone out there who continue to share their vast knowledge with me! Just got back from dropping off a load of #amps for servicing with my trusty amp tech @marshalllespaulfan, and look what I came back with!!!* 1972 @traynor_amps #StudioMate Super clean with some tasteful mods (added Presence control and more convenientlt relocated speaker jack), but original speakers. This thing sounds incredible! The 4 x 8 cab is very full and deep and the vibrato is super powerful. The reverb is right out of a Dick Dale tune. I'm going to enjoy this one!
