In volunteer leadership, service is a practice, not merely a position

SINGAPORE—At the end of June, the Extraordinary General Meeting marks a shift in my role with PMI Singapore Chapter. #ICYDK it’s a registered professional society in Singapore. I’m still part of the team 🤝, just in a new capacity contributing in a different way. 🇸🇬 

What members see on the surface, events, PDUs, announcements, is only part of the story. Behind the scenes 🎭, service means showing up consistently, even when no one is watching 👀. It means choosing to stay committed when the work is quiet, uncelebrated, or slow.

If the past year has taught me anything, it’s that the most impactful work often happens off the agenda. The mentorship that starts with one casual question. The connection that forms over kopi (coffee) ☕. The idea that emerges when someone feels heard. 💡💭 

🙏🏼 To Mr. Frankie Shuai, our outgoing Chapter President (term 2025-2026). Thank you for your leadership and mentorship. You held the center when things shifted. You showed us that authority is quiet.

🙏🏼 To my fellow ExCo officers and members who stood for election and were elected once more (term 2026-2028): You have carried the load when it was heavy. You have all served without fanfare. If members value steady hands over loud voices, you deserve their consideration. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.

#Honoured to Moderate Three Conference Sessions at IEEE ICHMS 2026 🎙️🏛️

SINGAPORE—Last week I was at an IEEE conference in a different capacity at 𝐍𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 (NTU) — Session Moderator at the 𝟔𝐭𝐡 𝐈𝐄𝐄𝐄 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧-𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬. 💻

💬 Moderating isn’t just cue cards and timing; it’s about #creating space for honest exchange, nudging conversations toward action, and catching the one sentence that changes the room. ✨ The three sessions delivered sharp ideas, #generous questions, and a real sense of people listening to one another, exactly why I enjoy convening conversations on AI #governance, trust, and responsible AI, airspace #management and hybrid intelligence, and human‑AI #education. 🤖📚 

Among a strong line‑up of speakers for the three-day event, I also had the chance to sit down with keynote speaker Associate Professor John Dong, Nanyang Business School (NBS) as he unpacked his research on 𝐀𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 and its tangible effects on industry practice and 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞. 💡 His examples turned abstract frameworks into immediate, practical questions for practitioners. 📈

#Celebrate Success with Lifelong Education

Another week, another opportunity to pause and recalibrate.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are no longer ‘coming’ because they're here. Generative AI (tools like Claude, Gemini, Copilot, ChatGPT) sits on desktop, in our browser, workflows, virtual meetings platforms, and quick searches. 👨🏻‍💻🔎

But how often do we ask: What's actually happening under the hood?

Large Language Models (LLMs) power these conversational interfaces. They're a specialized subset of Natural Language Processing (NLP), deeply intertwined with Machine Learning (ML) yet often treated as a black box. 💡🤖 Understanding the evolution, limitations, and practical levers of LLMs isn't just for AI specialists. It's for anyone who #builds, #teaches, or #leads with technology.

#Calling All Night Owls 🦉🎯

We spend years building projects’ outcomes in the lab. But the world outside 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 than our experiments. In my field of research, if your sensor doesn’t interfere with photon ✨, the signal is lost. In project management, it’s the same: if our 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 don’t account for AI, hybrid teams, and rapid shifts, we’re just optimizing for a reality that might no longer exists. 😵‍💫

The 4th Annual Student Competition 𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, organized by the PMI Singapore Chapter at Republic Polytechnic (RP), brought together students from 10+ Institutes of Higher Learning to design, plan, and launch a retail shop in Singapore, applying core 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 project management principles in a real-world context.

I am honored to serve as a judge and impressed by the teams of aspiring 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 ability to:  ☑️ Frame compelling business cases within tight constraints  ☑️ Apply the correct project management tools purposefully  ☑️ Articulate trade-offs between scope, timeline, risk, and stakeholder expectations
