btw i'm so happy that taiwan travelogue won the international booker prize!!!! i'm kinda late but i didn't even know it was nominated i don't really keep up with any book awards </3
it's so cool that a taiwanese author & translator with a book about taiwan won because it's getting a lot of recognition now. my old friend who now lives in Australia has been wanting to read it and he said it's finally available in bookstores there since it won the award. i love that.
did i mention i love taiwan in general

Maybe the root of the problem is that I’ve always been too proud to make space for other people in my mind. Chi-chan must have felt this deeply over the past year.
ouch
I’ve always done and said whatever I want without making space for others, and it took me so long to realize that I never truly listened to the things that you’ve been trying to tell me.
oouch
I am sorry, Miss Ông Tshian-ho̍h. Aoyama Chizuko is a despicable brute who has no regard for others, who always thinks she knows best, who is arrogant and doltish. From the beginning to end, my ignorant words and actions have repeatedly damaged our friendship. For this, I am most deeply sorry.
oooouuuchhh
I won’t ask anything of you anymore, Chi-chan. Not to be friends, not to be your ‘easterly wind,’ nothing. I wanted to let you know that I’ve finally understood why you chose to sever our relations—that’s all. I am not trying to seek your forgiveness.
aigh!

There may never be another person in this world who will cherish me the way you have. To me, you are a special and utterly unique presence. These are true, certain, and unalterable facts.
