Almost cried in the middle of the write-in today because I was writing some disgustingly fluffy shit and already know one of the characters is gonna die and the contrast made my heart hurt.

If you check Parse II, you can see that Shitty says that Kent dropped by after he won the Stanley Cup, and he says "but it wasn't like he actually had his Calder under his arm" or something. So I think fandom took that line and ran with it, wrt Parse showing up with the actual cup.

Okay, I was looking at that panel last night but I also didn’t quite get what Shitty meant by it. like is the Calder not an entirely separate thing from the Stanley Cup?? I’m Canadian and i like watching hockey irl but i pay VERY little attention to the NHL so most of what I know is random bits from growing up + whatever is in check please! itself. So that just served to confuse me. Anyywaayyy

and I think the fandom interpretation is the another big part of the reason I am so confused. I should have looked at one of those “facts we ACTUALLY know about Kent Parson” before asking the question but I was tired and i prob have a decent amount of stuff in my Parson tag by now lol.

honestly, it make more sense to think he didn’t show up with the actual cup, especially if Shitty was calling him “modest” and whatnot. To bring the cup would be super flashy and awkward, not modest at all. 

regardless, i think i get it a bit better now. thank you for the response, haha!!

honestly, i feel the same way about foxhole court? as you probably know, i'm a huge fan of six of crows and the raven cycle, so i'm not immune to this new ya trend, but foxhole court really... did not do it for me in terms of having characters i could be attached to. (also i'm like very anti-captive prince but i haven't actually read it, i've just heard a lot of.... Troublesome Things.....)

@notacentaur enjoyed captive prince (have you two met? You’re both from the same era of LJRP, but different circles afaik), but I just haven’t gotten around to it. I’m currently in a re-read of Robin Hobb’s work, before probably a reread of Scott Lynch’s Gentleman Bastards series in preparation for the release of the fourth.
