lindywatson confession i did it twice bc i didnt like the first number i got.

7. While dreaming

he doesn’t sleep well for his first few weeks in auradon. the soft bed is an adjustment, just like the fresh food and warm sheets and people actually caring about whether he was okay or not. he has a hard time shaking the isle off of him, the place that has been etched into his skin, sunk into his bones.

so, he usually sleeps on her lap, out on the lawn. she adjusts only a bit better, but she likes that they can be affectionate now. so he wraps his arms around her middle and buries his face in her stomach and lets her play with his hair. it’s the best he sleeps those first couple of weeks, with her fingernails running against his scalp and her heartbeat against his ear.

when he says it, he’s not even sure he’s awake; he’s asleep, he thinks. she’s twirling his hair in her fingers and he’s probably dreaming when he says it, or half dreaming. he read once about that place between dreaming and awake, maybe that’s where he is when he breaths, “i love you,” when she tugs his hair a little bit (but it’s okay, because he likes it.) and maybe he’s dreaming when he feels her fist his hair, and he’s for sure dreaming when he hears her whisper it back.
