So I have been speculating...currently N and L are very central characters, mainly because of the love triangle. I wonder if whoever is not chosen will move out of the spotlight next season? Still main characters but not as central. More like Jesse, Clara, Carson or Faith. It seems inevitable. Their screen time with E will be much less and although they will be part of other stories (L - oil/saloon, N - mountie), they won't be central to E's life. Especially Allie, if its E/L then Allie will simply be another student. I don't see Allie and another love interest of N getting the same amount of screen time together. Will we see as much of N and Allie without E? I doubt it.
This makes me wonder if WCTH will really move the show's mountie, and Allie by default, into the 'background' by going with an E/L future? I guess its possible although I will be a bit surprised.
Am I overanalyzing this!?
PS: I am trying to convince myself that they won't put E with L and I wouldn't have to watch too many more over-the-top picnics and akward candlelight dinners going forward, lol.
I think it is inevitable that the man not picked will become less of a focus but I don’t think it will be drastic. It’ll just be different. Although an ensemble show, Elizabeth and those closest to her will always come first, of course. The show is a lot more balanced than it used to be though which is a huge plus. I wouldn’t say that anyone would fade into the background. They’re actually using the secondary/tertiary characters more and more (Florence, Ned, Hickam, Molly, etc.) but the more characters regularly utilized means less screen time for everyone. It’s a trade off.
I don’t think you’re overanalyzing it. It’s what would most likely happen. When she does pick, things are going to shift a little. Either that means Nathan and Allie become even more important characters or Lucas does. And whoever isn’t picked will still be important but will probably be shifted back a bit. It also depends on other characters and couples. Will they want to give more airtime to Jesse/Clara and Carson/Faith? What about other couples that form this season? It’s a very fluid situation. It’s great that we’re getting all this development but we still only have the same amount of time each episode.
I really don’t think we need to worry about what’s going to happen. We will have to sit through way more nauseating scenes than we’d like to but there’s only one logical direction for the show to go in and only one choice that has overwhelming support. They can’t afford to decide wrong.
