Antique 18th century London mahogany linen press restoration .
The press come in for restoration and French polishing , the polish had faded in sun light gone cloudy through old polish , the draw runners would need attention along with some cockbeading around the them.
My biggest job was to flatten the twisted door panels and put them back in trying to keep the original veneers to the front .
The door panels were cut out and removed , with groves cut in the back of the door panels , this would take the tension from the mahogany panel and allow me to flatten , with wood cut and fitted to the gaps once laud and cramped flat. After levelling the repairs this was veneered over to hide the veneers and then fitted back in the door
The press needed a couple of other repairs to the carcass and some new moulding to be made , before being cleaned and then French polished , this brought out the mahogany veneers to the draw fronts and the satinwood and tulipwood crossbanding, the brassware was cleaned and put back on
