The Walkersville Lions move up to 5-0 after defeating the Linganore Lancers 27-0. Not only was it a key victory for the Lions to move up in the 2A standings; but a redemption game after what happened last year losing to the Lancers 7-6 in overtime.
It was raining the entire game. You could tell that this game was going to mostly a ground and pound type of game. In the first quarter the Lions came out playing great offense and spectacular defense.
After a few runs #5 Chad Gleason passed the career rushing yards record in Walkersville High School history. “It feels good especially in front of the home crowd, and also playing against a tough opponent in Linganore.” said senior Chad Gleason. Chad’s teammate Bryan Johnson also something to say about Chad breaking the record “I’m proud of him. He deserves it. I’ve never played with anyone who has the heart and will to be great as Chad has.”
The second quarter was almost exactly the same, Walkersville played great offense and even better defense, and Chad Gleason and the other running backs started popping out some big runs to help lead at halftime 7-0.
The Lions looked even more determined in the second half to score more points. The third quarter was pretty great for the Lions offensively Chad Gleason had two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter alone. Even the defense got involved; when #87 Kyle Daggett tipped the screen pass in the air and #3 Aaron Jahnke picked it off and returned 80 plus yards back for a touchdown, making the score 27-0 at the end of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was really quiet offensively for both teams; Walkersville continually playing great defense the entire, forcing multiple punts and creating a turnover and capitalizing on the turnover. At the end of it all Walkersville moves on victorious.
Some players had some stuff to say about not only their performance, but what this game means to them. Senior Jaxon Harris said “I feel GREAT; this was huge win for us, I think we did pretty great on all sides of the ball especially the running game.”
“I’m so happy, because we destroyed them. It was definitely a great game; we were almost perfect — a few tweaks, and we’re there.” said junior Aaron Jahnke
“Honestly we played great. Given the circumstances of this game, we played amazing. Especially our defense who’s put up a shutout for the 4th week in a row.” said senior Bryan Johnson. Johnson also added “I’m just looking forward to another dominating performance by us.”
Next week’s game for Walkersville will be the Homecoming game for Walkersville at home against the 2-3 Catoctin Cougars.

Wine & Wash
I had a really great day today. Like an A+ Saturday. I went to the Linganore Wine Festival in Mt. Airy, Md. Thousands of people gather for music, fun food, arts and of course wine. It was gorgeous weather, except for the few minutes we were inside looking at awesome stuff for sale and eating this. That’s little bits of raspberry over dark chocolate. The wine was great, and abundant. Lots of…
