Request: Hi! Mind if I request something? How about Link and his s/o trying to hide the fact that they're dating from the other Champions? Thanks! :)
This is my first BOTW fic, I hope you like it!
“No, no! This isn’t the right path. At this rate we’ll be in Faron,” Revali squawked in Urbosa’s ear as she glanced down at the map before her. Mipha sighed and Daruk chuckled, waiting for Urbosa pluck one of the feathers from his head. From the expression on her face, there was a high possibility of this occurring. Zelda was chuckling, but you couldn’t stand to hear this insufferable birds voice any longer. All he did was nag nag nag.
The fragrant smell of swift violet filled your nostrils, separating your gaze and thoughts from the group ahead of you. Your eyes shifted to the flowers before you, following the trail to the man who was offering them to you. Link’s gentle smile never ceased to make your heart skip a beat, and the kind gesture didn’t help prevent the heat from climbing up your cheeks. Your hand reached up to grab the flowers, a bolt of electricity running up your arm as your fingers brushed his, and that caused him to become flustered. After the brief and awkward exchange, you were a smiling mess as Link scratched the back of his head. You found it difficult to make eye contact.
“Y/N? What do you think?” Zelda asked, looking back at you with her gentle smile. You corrected your stature, linking your arms behind your back as to hide the plant. You looked around, becoming familiar with your surrounding before glancing back at the princess.
“W-well,” you started, trying to shake the blush from your cheek, “I hate to say it, but… I think Revali’s right,” You winced as a boisterous chuckle escaped her beak, causing Urbosa to groan. “But, if memory serves, there’s a fork in the road about half a mile ahead, and if we take the left path, it should head straight for hyrule bridge. So, we should be fine.” Revali seemed content, which meant he’d be quiet for the time being. Thank Hylia, you thought.
The rest of the group turned, satisfied with the conclusion of the argument. You sighed with relief, tucking the flower behind your pointed ear and smiling. A warmth pressed against your hands, calloused from years of training but comforting and familiar. You look over to Link and lace your fingers between his, feeling your heart race as you look ahead.
When you and Link first met, he was deemed Zelda’s personal knight. You had only heard about him from Zelda, complaining about how she didn’t need to be coddled, or about how he was an awful conversationalist. She wasn’t necessarily insulting him, moreso complaining about her father. You finally had a chance to meet the knight while you and Zelda were walking through the Temple of Time. She told you the history and the culture of the building. While she prayed at the altar of the Goddess, you wandered around the facility, studying the architecture of the beautiful building, hoping it’d be preserved forever. You could feel the power of the Goddess emanating through the building. You hadn’t realized how close you had wandered to the entrance before colliding with a figure not much taller than you. An arm wrapped around you before you fell to the ground, and your focus immediately snapped in front of you. You didn’t expect to find a handsome, blonde hair blue eyed hero in front of you, holding you close.
There was a steady moment of silence with your eyes wide and your heart pounding. He was small and thin, but you could feel the muscles under your hands. Your mouth opened a bit to apologize, but no voice came out. Instead, you heard Zelda behind him.
“Oh, Link.” She seemed disappointed, but you couldn’t look away from the man. He held the gaze a moment longer before pulling away, turning to focus on the princess. “Fine, fine, we’ll come home, but I don’t need another shadow.” She muttered, and he merely let her walk herself out. As you followed her, Link glanced back over and held eye contact, before giving a smile so sweet and so pure you felt ill with giddy.
That’s how it all started, from then on it was a mix of side glances and small conversation, you learned more about him and he learned about you. It was true, he was quiet, but there was so much more to him than just his voice. You had fallen for him.
It became apparent to you that he felt the same way when you and the other champions were heading towards a stable for the night. It began to rain, hard, and as you ran for cover, you slipped in the mud. Link ended up toppling after you in an effort to save you. Covered in mud, soaked, he held you close.
“My hero,” was all you said before your lips met.
You could never tell the others. They wouldn’t understand. “The mission is more important,” “our duty is to the princess, not our hearts,” “We need to stop Calamity Ganon before he gains any more strength.” Deep down, you both knew it wasn’t smart, but if there was only a limited time left, why waste it laying alone at night?
You looked ahead at the group, small talk floating between them. By now, you could see the bridge, and your hand was clammy from holding Link’s hand so long. You didn’t care, the connection was nice. You wanted more, you wanted to be able to hold him without care, you didn’t want to hide. Life was too short.
The hand the held yours soon wrapped around your waist, pulling you close as the champions moved ahead. His lips hovered near yours as you stared into his eyes, blush on your cheeks and your hands against his check, like the moment you first met.
“I love you, Y/N…” he whispered, pressing his lips against yours. You body melted into his, arms slithering around his neck. A smile lined your lips as you kissed. He had meant it to be quick, a brief moment, but he couldn’t bring himself to pull away.
“Hey… Link and Y/N have been a little more quiet than usual…” Daruk muttered. This caused the group to turn.
Mipha gasped and looked away, Urbosa knew and just smiled, Daruk laughed, and if a bird’s beak could reach the ground, Revali’s would’ve. Zelda just sighed, knowing how much he meant to you. She was happy, but she couldn’t help feeling jealous, for both of you.
“Alright you two,” Urbosa started, clapping. All you heard was silence. Your lips had parted but you were still close, foreheads pressed against each other. The Gerudo rolled her eyes and snapped, lightning flickering around you and causing you both to jump and separate. This made Daruk laugh harder. Urbosa chuckled as well. “Get a room, let’s go.” Daruk, Mipha, and Urbosa kept walking. You and Link followed close behind, leaving Revali and Zelda to trail behind.
“Are you going to let this occur, your highness? What if they get… further distracted?” Revali questioned, wondering how someone like Link could find anyone, especially someone like you. She just smiled, nodding.
“They deserve to be happy, even if the time is brief.” She said, glancing at the two of you, bother flustered messes.
At least you would no longer need to hide.
