Identifying panels within a script

In this tutorial, Ben talked about how to put words into a drawing. He showed us a script that did not indicate what would be in each panel and so he had complete freedom. He marked out each action a character was doing to start with but did not draw the character doing every action. This is good for me as I tend to draw my characters doing everything I say in my script, so now I know that I don’t need to draw my character doing every action, as long as the reader understands how the character got from point a to point b.

In this tutorial I learned about the rule of thirds. It makes the composition look more interesting. Rather than having everything be set in the center of the page, we use the rule of thirds to have some of the action of the panel at one side and some action on the other. Or, if it’s a vertical panel, the character(s) can be placed at the bottom while there is a huge space above them.

Today, I learned that having a wide shot on a page is a good way to establish where the scene takes place. Using close ups is a good way to make the scene more dynamic and will keep that in mind for when I do my own comics

In this lesson, I learned that character posing is very important. That a pose can tell you more about a character’s personality. A pose can tell the story of a character.

I’ve learned when making scenes that western audiences’ eyes would be drawn to the left first. So it would be a good idea to take full advantage of that. Also, when doing different scenes you would keep the character in the same side of the panel.

Transitions

I learned that for showing a time gap, you could fade between two scenes or have a dissolve effect. Another transition is the wipe which would be good to transfer from one scene to another.

Today i looked at this tutorial about storyboarding.

Acts, sequences, and scenes - I honestly had no idea of the big differences of live action and animation. I always use the term shots for each different camera angle in animation but the real term to use would be scene, but you would use shots for live action.
