NPC Video Game Character Building
What’s their location when the protagonist meets them?
Link is generally found on Lon Lon Ranch or the streets of the Eastern District. If he’s in the stables, he’ll either be attending to one of the horses or passed out on the nearest bale of hay.
What clothes are they always wearing?
If he’s out and about, Link will be wearing a green vest – arguably the nicest piece of clothing he owns. If he’s at work, however, he’ll likely be wearing a torn shirt and general work clothes.
When the protag talks to your character, what song is playing?
When your character is idle, what do they do?
He fidgets a lot; if he’s not walking around or doing something – such as tending to one of the horses or his chores on the ranch – he’ll likely be scratching his head, rubbing the back of his neck, or shoving his hands in his pockets.
When your character is activated by the protag, what gestures do they make while they talk? How do they stand?
Link glances around a lot, especially if he’s not familiar with the protagonist. He’ll shuffle his feet awkwardly at least once and cross his arms over his chest if he doesn’t like where the conversation is going. If he’s friendly with the protagonist, expect lots of blushing and awkward smiles.
When your character is initiated into conversation, what sound do they make before and during the conversation?
Regardless of his relationship with them, Link will always greet the protagonist with a grunt, a noncommittal “Huh?” or a general “Hullo”. This is mostly because his tendency to daydream leaves him perpetually startled by the protagonist’s presence.
Pick five side quests they would give the protag. Also include rewards, if you like.
Helping him out with his ranch chores, to which Link will reward the protagonist with a small sum.
A rather long-winded quest involving messages and flowers to be delivered to a particular young lady. Another small sum for helping keep Link’s love life alive.
There’s a delivery to be made in the Southern District, but with the recent gang activity Link isn’t sure he can defend himself and his cargo at the same time.
Link needs help busting a few of his rebel friends out of prison. He accompanies the protagonist through a night of violence and lockpicking. He gifts them with his sword before vanishing from the game for a period of time.
After returning from his brief period spent lying low, Link needs the protagonist to deliver a letter to the Princess Zelda, regarding some strange dreams he’s been having in the hopes of arranging a meeting time. Link gifts the protagonist with an old pendant, “A small token, but it’s the most valuable thing I can offer you.”
Give 1-3 samples of dialogue.
“Oh… hullo. I don’t suppose you could give me a hand with something?”
“Really? I mean… okay, good.”
“Okay, well… unless you plan on staring at me all day, maybe you should get going.”
