Hey uh other ppl who use Linux mint cinnamon or whatever is it normal for the update manager to be giving you updates like every day or multiple times a day? Im dumb as rocks and am not well versed in Linux or computers in general so idk if thats normal or not.
Im guessing this is either completely normal and something that no one has ever given a shit about except me OR it's something thats indicative of a deep and festering wound in my laptops brain.
Hey Linux friends, I'm thinking about ditching windows 11 and finally converting, but I'm nervous about the switch because the last time I tried installing Linux on a laptop it completely bricked it. Like full on, black screen, wouldn't even boot up dead. I have no idea why this happened, it was an almost brand new laptop, a HP Stream 11 back in like 2016 or so, and I'd seen other people run Mint on the same model with no issues.
How TF do I figure out what happened then and make sure it doesn't happen again? My current laptop is much beefier and I'm considering something like Ubuntu, but again I'm terrified I fucked something up last time and I'm gonna lose another piece of hardware.
I'm thinking maybe I should have actually learned how to use linux first before making it my only OS...

my fuckin linux labtop is being a bit of a bitch
so basically any time i close my laptop and re open it i just get a black screen. i know my laptop is on, the keyboard buttons that have lights like the power button and stuff are still lit up and i can turn the backlight on and off and change the brightness and all that but the screen is just black for some reason.
whenever this happens which is by the way every single time i close and re open my laptop i just go "ughhhh!!!!" and i hold the power button until the light goes off and then i hold it again until it comes back and THEN i see the linux mint logo and am taken to the login screen.
i figured this was either a) something i was doing wrong because im stupid and barely know how computers work and only started using linux a couple weeks ago or b) just something linux does and something id have to live with forever basically. i looked it up and apparently!! fucking apparently!!! this is a problem that a lot of people have!!!! idk what to do about it tho!!!!!
heres a screenshot of my system information, i literally dont know what any of this means but i know that people ask for it when people have this problem. thats also why i havent really tried any of the solutions ive seen online cause im worried that theyre all specific to peoples specific computer systems and stuff and im worried i'll mess my poor lapbot up :P
been having a weird problem when playing video games on my laptop recently and i dont know if it's a linux issue, a steam issue, or a hardware issue
Basically my directional keys get stuck when im playing games and the only way to get them unstuck is quickly double tapping them. It's not just the WASD keys either, i first noticed this issue when playing Fear and Hunger which uses the arrow keys. I noticed that it happened a lot more the bigger i made the game window, never happening when i left it in its original tiny size and happening every time i tried to move when i made the game full screen. Since i was playing Fear and Hunger (a game notorious for its bugs) I just assumed it was some of that Funger Jank i heard about and tried to live with it. Then i went to play Date Everything and I noticed that I had the same exact problem AND on top of that my space bar would frequently get stuck like my WASD keys would. At this point i was completely pissed and quite frankly i still am. I havent played ANY video games on my laptop since i realized this problem could affect any of my games.
I thought that maybe this was a linux issue since i switched to linux mint cinnamon this January and Im kind of a dummy when it comes to this sort of thing. I looked up "linux mint cinnamon wasd getting stuck" and saw 2 steam users who had the same issue but nothing else. It makes me wonder if it has something to do with Steam somehow but I really don't know. I cannot stress to you enough that this only happens when im playing video games. My WASD, space, and arrow keys DO NOT GET STUCK LIKE THIS NORMALLY.
yeah uh idk what else to put here, sorry for the long read. id appreciate any help i can get cause i am 100% prepared to just burn my laptop down and start over if that'll fix this. xoxo
