“How can you willingly choose to walk the path to your own death…?“
❝ WE MUST ALL die at some point , Felix . Some sooner than others . ❞
HUBERT PREFERRED TO CALL HIMSELF A REALIST as opposed to a pessimist , though with some of the words that came out of his mouth , he could certainly see why he was seen as the latter by the vast majority of the population . Still , he was not one to take false hope nor feign ignorance to his situation – he was siding with his liege in a war against the church and , now by proxy , against the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus , no small feat by any means . It sounded cliche , but his belief in his lady triumphed over any and all fears he may have had , to the point where it gave him quite the inner vigour to stand sentinel for his empress , ironic due to him being a mage who should really learn to stick to the back lines . Ah , he hated to compare himself to Caspar at the best of times , but like him , Hubert did have a fondness for the thrill of battle and the adrenaline it brought .
AND SO HE CEASED THE FORMALITIES , unveiling his sable tome containing malevolent conjurations of ages past , his preferred weapon in battle . Though he be without the power of a Crest , his convictions and his beliefs in Edelgard were enough to steel his resolve against any foe , be it a former classmate , Rhea or the gods themselves . His usual apathetic expression shifted to a sly grin , one whom any one of his enemies might have thought of as a facade , a ploy for a man facing his own demise to go out with a look of determination on his face , yet despite the odds being ever stacked against them , the magus knew that somehow , they would win . His emperor was too diligent , too pure of a human to be taken so soon , but him … He said to her once that he would paint the path red before her in blood gladly , and if that blood was to be his own , so be it . It would simply be the cruel jest of fate at work .
❝ BUT I REFUSE to die without taking at least some of you down with me . ❞
