[Song that played: Something Wild by Lindsey Stirling]
You feel the large hand leave your back as you straighten out, wind rushing through your hair.
“Hehehah, easy there, lil’ man! Don’t want’ya fallin’ o’erboard now, aye?”
The smile across your face splits as you laugh quietly, and then break out into a loud fit of happy giggling. No one had spoken any sort of joke, no one really said anything to spur this.
No, this was pure joy. The first time you’ve ever felt it like this.
“A’ight, a’ight, c’mon down y’spindly lil’ fucker-” Aquiso chortles, reaching up and plucking you off the railing, before placing you back on your feet on the deck of his ship.
“You do this all the time? Out here-”
He smiles widely- you’ve grown to love that smile over the last night- and pats your back.
“Aye!! Tha’ we do, lil’ man! Ain’t no empire t’tell us what t’do, freedom o’th’seas all aroun’ us... I’m tellin’ ye, mate, it’s th’life t’live.”
You look up at him in wonder, taking in the entire ship and its views. You’ve never felt this free before, the open air, the sea on all sides...
“...Can... I come with you?”
There’s a moment of pause on his face as he thinks, before that smile breaks out again.
“A’course! We’ll set’cha up in th’crows nest fer now, keep an eye out fer anythin’ odd, aye?”
Your face lights up, straightening out and saluting in a mocking manner.
“Yes sir!” You call out excitedly, rushing off in a random direction- you don’t even know where the crows nest is.

You let out a sigh as you finish climbing the ladder of the Sea’s Vengeance’s central mast. The sky is dark, the moons hidden behind thick clouds. You look out across the dark waters, the waves crashing against the side of the ship, causing it to sway ever so slightly. Well, it would be slight if you were on the deck. Up here, you can feel everything.
You put your hand on the railing, to steady yourself, but move it to the side when you feel an odd texture underneath.
Carved on the old wood, you see the numbers ‘713′, hastily scratched out, and in bold letters next to it, ‘SEVENN TARANN’. The engraving is heavily weathered, clearly old. A tear rolls down your scarred face as you look at it.
The crow’s nest was always your favorite place on his ship. On the deck, sure, you were around other people, you could help, and be closer to the ground.
But up here? You could see for miles, the wind felt cleaner and fresher, the stars looked brighter.
Up here, you can feel everything.
