That would be ridiculous… I see how culture themed parties and costumes, along with other things, can be problematic but we all share this planet, we coexist… We can’t ask people not to enjoy a culture because it is not theirs

That's exactly how I feel. There are real incidences of cultural appropriation. But the natural evolution of people allows for cultures to combine and create new traditions and expressions. Why take away that inspiration and enjoyment? Then we never create anything new.

Mostly when I comes too food the religious aspect would be NOT eating certain things... And I don't see any Muslim claiming appropriation because a vegetarian doesn't eat pig meat, you know? Personally I'm all for cultures mixing and merging so...

Yeah, sometimes I kind of struggle seeing the difference between cultural appropriation and, like you say, cultures mixing and merging. Like rock 'n roll (primarily white musicians) was created through influences of gospel, blues and jazz- all primarily African-American genres. Does this mean rock is problematic and we shouldn't listen to it, or that it never should have been created in the first place?

I believe that dance, clothing and music have traditional meanings that can often be linked to religion or spirituality and maybe appropriating those can be considered as trivializing certain religious symbols but food is… Food, I guess idk

Okay, that's fair. That makes sense. I can't really think of an example where food has some deep religious meaning... or wait, what about king cake/galette des rois? That's religiously tied, but I've never heard it considered cultural appropriation. Or maybe someone would? idk. My family used to order one for a few years, but we're not Christian (well my mom is, but she never celebrated Epiphany)

Yup! The new bills (the plastic ones) actually smell like maple syrup! The smell wears off a bit with time and use but if you get a new bill you can smell it for sure

I am so bummed I missed my opportunity here! I'll just have to make a point of it when I (hopefully) visit Montréal when their cat café opens...

Oh no is this the maple syrup-scented kind?? Dammit I totally had the opportunity and I wasted it!
