Writing Prompt: Dialogue

I just finished A Curse So Dark And Lonely, by Brigid Kemmerer, and wow, it might be even better than The Beast's Heart. That's a fantastic twist on Beauty and the Beast's story, and, this time, I'm using fantastic in its literary sense of "a story that starts in the real world and then gets invaded by the magical". Harper is truly awesome and badass, and I would have loved to see Grey's POV through the story, he's so good and loyal. Rhen is interesting insomuch as he's different from what the character of the Prince usually is in these contemporary rewritings. He's much more pro-active in his life and passive in his curse, if that makes sense, while most other Princes linger in their resignation and frustration.

That was such a fascinating read, I can't wait to start writing my thesis on modern rewritings of B&tB and compare it with The Beast's Heart, A Tale of Love and Revenge, Uprooted or Once Upon A Time, Belle. If you guys know more rewritings in contemporary literature of the tale, please do drop recs, the more samples I have for my thesis, the better!

Beauty and the Beast told from the perspective of ... the candlestick?

Lucie is sent to work as a maid at the Chateau de Beaumont, where she encounters the handsome but self-centered and arrogant Jean-Loup. When the enchantress arrives at his door and punishes him for his cruelty, Lucie is only too happy to see him get what he deserves. As all the other servants flee the grounds, she chooses to remain and bear witness to Jean-Loup's suffering, and so the enchantress gives her a new form that will be safe from the Beast's abuse.

But there's one problem: Beast isn't suffering. Because Beast doesn't remember being anyone but Beast. And as Lucie gets to know this new creature, so unlike the monstrous Jean-Loup, she starts to think she might even like to be friends with him.

Until the day a beautiful girl arrives at the castle, whose very presence threatens to undo the curse and unleash Jean-Loup back into the world. Lucie is determined not to let that happen.

It's a story of (like the title says) love and revenge, of second chances and learning to let go of hatred. It has some very interesting twists that I've never seen before in a BatB retelling! Skillfully done!

Thank you so much I am glad you was the right one I haven't read it yet but planning to I will tell you my thoghts once I do I can still ask you which book are with a relationshipped hook? My sister like romance and I would like to give her something new to read ^^

There are several books I’ve read that have Hook in relationship at some point during the storyline, but because of how the original storyline ends, few of them actually give him a happy ending with his love interest. The only one that immediately comes to mind with that sort of happy-ending romance is Alias Hook by Lisa Jensen (Hook is paired with an OC). I’ve also heard that the Hook & Jill series (Hook paired with an adult Wendy) is pretty good, but I have honestly been hesitant to check it out as I’ve heard it has a LOT of very explicit sexual content and that’s not really something I’m personally comfortable reading.

Alias Hook - Lisa Jensen

A Peter Pan retelling that captures the eerie and magical side of Neverland. The story focuses in on Captain Hook, how he came about the island and what he would do to escape his purgatory. 

I really enjoyed this book. This isn’t a young adult book, so it really pushed the envelope with violence and children committing violent acts.
