Babes, you didn't lie to Kaz Brekker, Kaz Brekker manipulated you into thinking you lied to him so you'd go exactly where he wanted you to go. Also he's a matchmaker king and he had enough of your mutual pining.

"You were angry. Angry wears off. I needed you righteous."
Of all the insane lines spoken by Kaz, I think that one has to be in the top 5 hardest hitting ones. Anger does wear off, but righteousness, the will to do what's right and stick to your values and principles and the knowledge and belief that you are right and justified? Unparalleled.
"She wished someone in this city would help them, that they weren't so alone. She wished Jesper's father could take them all with him."
*weeping* they're babies. They're 16 to 18 only! They should be at the club having sleepovers and angsting about grades and dates, not planning to take down the biggest names in the city.
What strikes me, though, is the fact that even the three Crows that still have parents can't just... go back home. Wylan's mother needs to be taken care of, he has to be the mercher, the one in charge of the fortune and the household. Inej cannot go back to the Suli caravan, no matter how welcoming her parents are, because that's not who she is anymore. And even Jesper can't just go back to Novyi Zem, he's not just Jesper Fahey, Colm's son anymore, he's Jesper the Crow, Jesper of the Dregs, Jesper, Kaz's lieutenant.
Even when Nina thinks "Jesper had somewhere to go, someone to take care of him", that's not true. And she knows it. But she's still a 17 year old girl who wishes against all hopes that this going back could be true.
Lines I'm never getting over:
You two are not fooling anyone.
I finished Alchemised.
What do I do with my life now.
We all know the classic Kanej lines but I think there's one we're overlooking - or at least I've never seen it in the usual lists:
"Her voice had brought him back from the dark; it had been the tether he gripped and used to drag himself back to some semblance of sanity."
*cas voice* I'm the one who gripped you tight and dragged you from i don't remember how the quote goes hallelujah nature is healing
Hello delicious co-dependency.
“I chipped his sacred religious item into long splinters using a pair of pliers and a screwdriver. I figure if there’s a God, He won’t mind, considering the situation I’m in.
Ruining the only religious icon I have leaves me vulnerable to Mars Vampires. I’ll have to risk it.”
Oh, Mark Watney is a funny, funny sob, lmao.
In other news, started reading The Martian, having a grand time.
While I'm on underrated lines, have a Helnik moment:
"As he fastened it around her throat, Nina met his eyes over her shoulder, and the look they exchanged could have melted miles of northern ice. Matthias moved away hurriedly."
Ha, no wonder most of the Helnik fics on AO3 are pure smut, these two are thirstyyyyy.
