Writing tip: Talk to your child like a writer
*Stories are all around us.
*When your child is talking about an event they’ve experienced with emotion, either with a lot of excitement, being afraid, feeling brave, or just something plain funny, remind them that it would make for a great story.
*Help your child recognize that these events are seeds of stories waiting to take life.
*Remember when your child talks about what they were thinking or feeling, that adds dimension to their story (also known as internal thinking or a “thought shot”).
*Kids often have a hard time coming up with ideas to write about. If you help plant seeds to stories, this may help your child with their “writer’s block” come fall.
*We’d love to hear what story ideas your children have from their lives!
