Day 1 of 5. Litchfield National Park. Sept 20.
Met up with our tour guide at 6:30 in the morning, and was quite nicely surprised, that he was not an eyesore. Me and Rebecca also spent a considerable amount of time during the trip attempting to guess his age. Our guesses ranged from 24 - 32, but from a lot of analaysing and such, we settled on 26.
Our first stop was the termite mounds in Litchfeild. In which we learned that half the group (7 of 16) did not speak English. Now, these termite mounds were pretty epic. Think of bugs. Who build condos. Facing magnetic North.
We then went off to play in two different waterfalls, Florence Falls and Buley Waterhole. At this point in the trip, I wasn't desperate enough to need to cool down so I didn't get in...well, on purpose. I kinda fell into Florence falls, almost taking my camera with me, but thanks to an old man, we both didn't get too wet.
On the way down to Florence Falls, I got to see my first giant Australian spider. Thankfully, it was still on its web.
After the water falls, we took what seemed like a very long dirt road (but the roadtrips in the days coming taught me that this road was a very short one) to the Mary River billabong to take a river boat to look at the wildlife - including crocodiles.
That night we stayed in a "hotel" like accommodation, but it looked more like a shipping container with bunkbeds. We went up to the ridge and watched the sunset. Most of the group (meaning, everyone but me and Rebecca) went to bed after dinner - so 8pm or so. There was a Dutch couple who had flown in from Holland at 2am that morning, so the fact that they made it to 8pm was amazing. Seeing how we were the youngin's on the trip, we headed over to the pub. Played two very slow and bad games of pools. Geoff totally beat Rebecca, but she totally beat me.
Rebecca almost was attacked by a frog in the toilet, and I took the quickest shower in the world in fears of running into a gecko. If this all wasn't awkward enough, Geoff commented in the morning about our frog encounter.
It was a solid start to the best time of your life.
