Idk who to turn to so I hope it's ok if I send this to you? I'm 50% glad that hq is getting the attention it deserves but also 50% disappointed bc it's been proven that when anything goes mainstream and the fandom grows bigger, chances of it becoming more toxic/dangerous would definitely increase and I feel like the recent issue is one proof of that (there were more minor incidents where immature new fans took things too far w their memes and ~jokes~ about the hq characters which made me mad)

i would say... yeah, i agree. you’re right, and it is a lot more than just the drama that happened here on tumblr - there’s been a lot of garbage happening on twitter too. and the only explanation i can possibly give is that the fandom is growing because the anime is back and the manga is growing in popularity - there’s literally no other explanation that makes sense to me, but if anyone else has any ideas, throw them at me. but a year ago, it was not like this.

i will say one thing though, which i said in a recent ask: your fandom experience is what you make of it, friend. it is not defined by fandom drama. it is not defined by toxicity in the community. while these things are horrible, they do not make the fandom itself horrible.

you can choose how you let these things impact you and your experience in fandom. it will drive you away from haikyuu and the characters you love, the friends you’ve made here, and the fantastic people who do exist in this fandom only if you let it.

you just can’t let it. you can surround yourself with positivity and have a good fandom experience here with just a little bit of effort - i’ve done it. you don’t have to follow every single artist, writer, creator in a fandom. if someone isn’t creating a positive space, you can unfollow them and find someone who does. and i can say this honestly: there are dozens of kind, positive, creative, talented people in this fandom. artists, writers, creators, who do not perpetuate negativity and only give the hq fandom a good name. find them, support them, talk about them as much as you talk about the bad parts. that’s what makes fandom great. (maybe i should make a post shouting out some of those people? idk, lmk)

also, just a note to anyone thinking about leaving the hq fandom: good luck finding a fandom that doesn’t have drama and toxic people and copy cat blogs and hate anons and all the other things people claim we have - because you won’t. no fandom is perfect, even if its imperfections are small. to those of you who have something to say about all hq blogs being toxic and copies of each other or its fans only being “12 year old white girls” (saw that in a tweet last night) i would recommend taking a look at the spaces you’re creating and reevaluating them - if they aren’t positive and drama free, then you have no room to talk.
