emergency room

I try to fill up all the space you left inside me with words but they just keep falling out

so I write and write and write as the words pour out of my wounds like blood

tighten the tourniquet of stanzas on my veins to stop from bleeding me dry

your love, it slips like a blade in my ribs

praying to a god I cannot name that the pain will end

pretending I have the luxury to pretend I don’t care anymore

to pretend I can’t feel the burns three degrees deep

to pretend that I don’t know the only companion I’ll ever have is pain.
