I was listening to a daily podcast about Chicago, and they mentioned a Printer's Row Lit Fest that was at the corner of Dearborn & Polk. I was like, "Oooh, Sam's cats are going to be at a festival in Chicago?" Then I realized they meant the streets. (This is what happens when I listen to a podcast before I'm fully awake.) And cats or no cats, I'm out of town this weekend, so I can't go anyway. 😂
Yes! Litfest is this weekend and it's GREAT. It's two blocks of books for sale right outside my front door, dotted about with organizations that like books and storytelling and local businesses that support same. I actually was super bummed because I thought it was next weekend, when I'll be in Texas for my birthday, but I found out like YESTERDAY that it's this weekend. So I will be roaming secretly within it like the cryptid I am.
Chicagoans, if you're going, please stop by the Chicago Public Library booth because they always have nice swag and sometimes free books, and also please stop by the booth for Stories Matter Foundation, which is a brilliant nonprofit that helps storytellers build skills, think critically about storytelling, and learn confidence in their craft.
Also if you go to Litfest and have fun, please consider giving to "Save The Fountain" at Printer's Row Park. In addition to feeling like you're part of an 80s movie where you get to Save A Historic Landmark, you will help to restore one of the reasons I love living in this neighborhood! (And save your receipt. I'm planning to do a fundraising thing in October for Save The Fountain and you can get credit then for giving now!)
