VisArts Gallery department "field trip" to Brian Garner's Litho Shop in Baltimore, MD. What a great insight to the inner workings of a master printmakers studio! Garner was the curator to Hoi Polloi a recent exhibit in Kaplan Gallery at VisArts. The exhibit presented a broad arc of emerging to established artists who chose to investigate the conceptual, material and technical possibilities of prints to carry images and words to the masses.

On Monday Emily and yours truly embarked on a spontaneous day trip to Baltimore. Surprise visiting Lithopshop didn't really work out, we managed to stand in front of his studio doors, but no Brian there, so went to see the sharks at the aquarium instead. The plan was to meet Kim and Kyle from Baltimore Print Studios later that day. Hearing of our failed attempt to surprise-visit Lithoshop Kyle pulled some strings sent some text messages and the Lithoshop meeting was in full effect. Emily and Brian did their secret Tamarind handshake thing and talked about all things litho ("C") while I listened. Pictured see Brian giving us a sneak peek of his stash of unpublished tumblr posts. If you somehow don't follow Lithoshop (and Emily) yet, go go go!
Arrived at Baltimore Print Studios fashionably late. Eleanor the printshop dog refused to make friends with me while Kim and Kyle gave us a tour of their amazing shop. We talked presses and printmaking in general and left with a stash of letterpress goodies <3. Follow them here on tumblr, on twitter or on instagram! Pictured: me trying to impress Kyle with the latest news about Finnish printmaking (doesn't happen in the summer, everyone is at their summer house, drunk), amazing draw down sheet for massive screen printing project done at Baltimore Print Studios. More news from Baltimore later~
