I was looking for the reblog button on this stuffed crazy bread 😭
What’s the best simple meal you’ve had in recent memory? For me, that was a half-cheese, half-pepperoni pizza from Little Caesar’s I had last Saturday for lunch. It was one of those meals where you go in expecting nothing, but something about this particular one just hit differently, left an impact- The way the cheese was so soft and melted and the, should I say salty, taste it had... I think like the unsalted fries trick for McDonald’s, it seems that with Little Caesar’s, if you ask for a half-and-half; They HAVE to make it fresh, assuming they don’t already have one prepared. I’d seen other customers come and go as I waited for mine, all ordering just a regular pizza and getting it instantly; So I guess the company has some policy against just splicing the halves of two separate pizzas into a box and calling it a day. Not that I’m complaining, in hindsight.
It was a very refreshing experience as I ate it, too; It was hot, but I found a nice little spot in the shade in anticipation for my car, an area surrounded with some leftover snow from the previous freeze. It served as a wonderful, natural AC as I rolled down my window and enjoyed the pizza, and the soft and gooey texture, deliciously cheesy, keeps sticking with me for some reason. Mind you, I didn’t eat the entire pizza; Just my own halves of the pepperoni and cheese bits. I’d agreed with a friend earlier that day... They wanted me to grab them a pizza, I was also in the mood, so we agreed to split; I’d wait in my car nearby and have my fair share before they arrived to pick up the rest and pay what was owed.
Those brief minutes eating the pizza were utter, unexpected bliss- Arguably the best kind, because you don’t go in with any expectations, you’re just enjoying the moment peacefully and humbly with no strings attached, I was just in the moment, the zone. And speaking of zone... I’d actually expected to enjoy the pepperoni more, having appreciated that scene from Pixar’s Soul; But the cheese stuck out to me, reminiscent of that scene from A Goofy Movie, just pure and uninterrupted surface texture. I expected the typical taste, but having it fresh... It really DOES make a difference, when my otherwise incredibly easy palate never tended to notice, or at least not appreciate it.
And the root beer- Another unexpected delight, just a single, decently-sized plastic bottle from the restaurant’s soda fridge, to my side before the counter. Barq’s, if I recall correctly- And so wonderfully creamy with that nice, rich color... Like the pizza, a humble, if corporate, nourishment to wash it all down and further cool myself, after I had finished my meal and found myself wanting a refreshment. I hadn’t had root beer in a while, but even with that in mind, I found something particularly enjoyable about this one- Maybe it was because other root beers I had came with ice and were thus watered down to an extent? But this was raw and unadulterated creamy, rich goodness that I can still feel on the tip of my tongue. Nice and frothy, with a good carbonated spice to my mouth and throat; And an eventual, satisfying belch.
It was a perfectly normal, humble meal, nothing to dream nor anticipate; And I think that’s what contributed to my incredibly pleasant surprise at how much I enjoyed it, looking back now and realizing how much it all stuck with me. Maybe this pizza and root beer also tasted good because it came with my first taste of freedom and so became somewhat literal as well; It was my first time leaving the house after an entire week snowed-in, dark and bleak... And now the sun was out, I could feel warmth upon my skin, and I could stretch my legs just after freshly re-fueling my near-empty car. The possibilities felt endless, it was the initial high of breaking free and being able to do whatever you want, of having that option, even if you wouldn’t actually fully explore it; It was a celebration meal, perhaps.
...I dunno. Something about it was just; A good day, and a good meal, for me. It was a defining example of the little, innocently thoughtless, good things in life.
Happy Ides of March, everyone! And remember, today is not just about stabbing someone. It’s about coming together as a group to stab someone.
Pepperoni
Funko and pizza. Couldn’t have asked for a better combo! Preordered Akuma and waited two long months before he became available in store. Ordered my pizza and waited no time at all because it’s Hot-N-Ready! 😜
