Yeah, I saw - I mostly just feel thankful it's not as bad as it could have been (they didn't cite it as being on AO3, or add my handle, or link it (so so so SO thankful that they didn't link it, after what's happened to the people that's happened to in the heated rivalry and the pitt spaces) - I think it helps that it was part of an interview, rather than being part of a "check out these weirdos" articles about fandom), but it does feel a bit like looking up at a big tidal wave of Ominous Things To Come.

Ok so I’ve had this fic scene rattling around in my head and I need to share it with someone who has good takes about gilded age and Bertha and Larry’s relationship

Basically, things start to get patched up between Larry and Bertha, Larry tells her one night that he’s thinking about running for alderman or some kind of political office. Larry thinks that Bertha is going to be proud of him for finally figuring out a real Direction in life, instead she loses it and is like absolutely not. Larry assumes it must be because Bertha doesn’t believe in him or something fueled by his own insecurities, but it’s actually because she knows he’ll be a really good politician and in her mind (considering this is right after Garfield and 20 years after Lincoln) good politicians get assassinated and she doesn’t think she could handle seeing what happened to George also happen to her son.

I mean, I think she would be supportive, but in a way that is so tense and overly involved that Larry interprets it as that she doesn't think he can do it/thinks he'll be bad at it - she wants to read every document before it passes through her hands (especially the speeches), she insists on personally interviewing all his staff (and hires some he didn't even ask her to - he's not sure what those people seem to do except stand around), and she watches him like a hawk (which is NOT helping their already strained relationship be better!). It isn't until Marian asks her, very tentatively, if maybe they could have dinner without quite so many bodyguards, since they are inside the Russell's home and she knows for a fact that Bertha has people patrolling outside their house that Larry even realises that's what they are (and not just extraneous assistants or people his mother hired so they could agree with her) and he's so surprised it takes him another few hours to wonder why his mother thinks he needs what appears to be a small army for his private security.

And they talk about it, and it all comes out - very tentatively at first, of course, because Bertha honestly thought she was going about it in a very subtle way ("I have had four men following me at all times, that's hardly subtle" "well as there are six men who have been guarding you I would argue that they're being more subtle then you give them credit for"), and isn't very apologetic about since she thinks her fears are entirely justifiable ("your father didn't think he had to worry about anything like that either. I will be taking no more chances where my family is concerned").

Eventually he does manage to talk her down to two bodyguards while he's inside the house as long as there are still people posted outside. Hey, Bertha can compromise when she needs to.

8. If you had to write a sequel to a fic, you’d write one for…

This is such a hard one!! People do ask for sequel fics sometimes, which is very flattering!! But it's not usually something I plan to do (usually if I had more to say with a fic, what happens is that it just gets longer and longer lol). That being said!! I do have a sequel to the Russells-in-Hollywood that I'm tinkering with, and another one for the gilded age superhero au, and I would like to write a little GeorgeBertha prequel for the hockey au at some point.

If I had infinite time and brain energy, I don't know... Maybe the 1930s au, since I always envisioned George and Bertha's married life being somewhat screwball-esque (he's a straight-laced businessman! She's a psychic! They're running around the big city while George prepares for a big deal and Bertha's powers keep putting her one step ahead of where he thinks she's going to be! Hijinks!). I would probably want to do more research than "having watched some 1930s movies" (lol), but maybe some day!!

18. If you keep them, share a deleted sentence or paragraph from a published fic

This feels like such a cardinal sin of writing but I basically never delete anything. Sometimes while I'm writing I will think of an idea that won't fit and that gets put into a new document to become its own new fic, but unless my beta told me it didn't work, it basically stays in (and luckily @cassi0pei4 is very kind and only asks for stuff to be expanded out, even when it means I'm sending her a 20k fic instead of a 5k one).

On the subject of watching secret celebrity drag race, if you have a vpn and wowpresents, just point your vpn to a country that has scdr on that platform (I think somewhere on the website there’s literally a spreadsheet saying what’s available in what country). This also works for anything in the drag race cinematic universe!
